Its gone, someone else will be reopening it, could be bodkins, sounds familiar.

The sign said 'Restaurant & Buffet'. So here's hoping! <crosses fingers>

Don't know but it's going to be called 'Bodkin Point' or something similar. Possibly that roundabout may be the Bodkin one hence the reference? Us locals still call it 'the Headford Road Roundabout'.

Not sure, he's in Hong Kong at the moment. I know there will be some renovations done, he said one side will be a restaurant and the other will be a buffet!

Glad to hear King Dong are opening it; their food is very good, and the people in their Rahoon takeaway are very nice to deal with.

That's the name us blow-ins call it.

The natives think it's just a normal roundabout.

    :)

That might be another establishment you're thinking of.

One which specialises in over sized bratwurst, perhaps...?

    (I'll get me coat)

Well it was our first one! Same as if in a conversation between us somebody mentions 'The Shopping Centre' nobody asks 'which one?'.

Not a massive selection, but what is there is really good.

Word of warning though. After you've finished eating, ask for your ice-cream & tea/coffee. They don't tell you about it, but it's included in the price. Or at least it was when I was last there about half a year ago.

Opening on 25th April with 10.80 for lunch until 4:30, 15.80 from 5pm-11pm and 12.80 for the rest of the time. Cant remember what time lunch starts and its 3 euro pints for first week.

Slight price increase for lunch but at least its not too much.

I shall be feasting there circa 6pm on the opening day, and will be reporting back here immensely bloated and disgusting after I've woken from my food coma.

Feel free to join me, but by christ if someone takes the last duck pancake on me, we're gonna have words... :pac:

Your anticipation for the opportunity to demolish large quantities of food is warming. Although are you not put off by the HSA report that forced the closure in the first place?
Not saying that I've never eaten in a dirty auld spot; however I dont think I could do so knowingly, if you get me.

As the whippersnappers of today say, "YOLO mo'fo..."

Short of a rotting corpse filled with turds lying across the buffet table, there's not much that could put me off. Even then, I'd probably still just eat around it.

    I ain't precious. ;)

Well, just to be on the safe side, make sure to drink plenty of alcohol post-gorge as some kind of attempt at negating any gastrointestinal tract infection.:D

I might chance it followed by a trip to Salt House for strong beer to handle any nasties! Are we making this a Boards thing then? :)

Just read this as to why the place closed....
Cobwebs, spiders and flying insects in the kitchen, service and storage areas led to Star King Pan Asian Restaurant in Galway Shopping Centre, Headford Road, being served with a closure order on November 8.

Doors from the kitchen were left open directly on to a dirty yard full of chicken bones, mouldy food, pools of greasy waste water and other waste.

I'm sure things have improved under he new management.

The new owners wouldn't get a certificate to reopen unless all of those issues were dealt with.

And AFAIK there have never been any issues with their other restaurant (king ding in glenn dara).

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,233 ✭✭✭squonk

I'll run in to check it out. I've heard good things about King Dong so looking forward to it for a bit of soakage pre-Salt House :)

Is the 15.80 for the All You Can Eat buffet or have they turned it into a sit down and order Chinese restaurant now?

I ordered King ding last night. Yeah they're better than any other Chinese I've eaten in Galway.
