I got a computer and the hard drive seems to have failed, Windows was not booting and would not boot into safe mode etc. My initial suspicion is a failed hard drive.

I just removed the Hard Drive now and put it in the dock and I'm just getting an option to format it from Windows. I choose not to format it naturally but I am just wondering if it would be bad sectors etc. as I'd like to try recover the data.

    Any ideas??

If you're lucky, it's just a shot partition table. If so, EaseUS Partition Recovery should be able to do the job.

If you want to test the drive for bad sectors, use HD Tune.
