yes indeed it is good news for the city, why not build a micro brewery as well so that the tradition of brewing is not lost to kilkenny. I notice that a small brewery has started production in Dungarvan making specialist brews and some famous uk brewers like shepherd and neame are shipping ales here.
Glad to see Phil is involved. I won't mention toilet paper or Tesco.

I presume in days gone by many of the larger towns had their own brewery before being gobbled up in the rush for financial savings.
Not being a drinker I would not know one beer from another but again a presumption there would be variations depending on the brewer.
To bring back local brewing must have benefits for the city/town involved, I used to live near Young's brewery in Wandsworth and the smell of the hops etc was to say the least intoxicating.
Finding a name could be interesting, something strong and local, Abbey on the Nore.
    Ah well Foxy

Very excited about Brewery Corner, it's going to be Kilkenny's first craft beer pub. It's in a great location in a part of town that needs more activity. Hope it's a huge success.

The visitor centre and the direct involvement of the Smithwick family is a huge boost for this development. It's really important that the heritage of brewing in Kilkenny is represented in the new site and I'm glad to see the plans are being put in place.

As well as kilkenny there were breweries in Kells, Thomastown, Graiguenamanagh

It would be great to see a micro brewry or two back in Kilkenny as there seems to be a real market for craft beers

Where in KK will the new craft pub be located & any idea when it is due to open?

The official opening night is May 19th and it's located in the old Widows bar next to Cleeres on Parliament Street. They're doing a nice job refurbishing it at the moment and it's nice to see something unique coming into the pub scene in Kilkenny.

Cheers mate, should make a nice change from the norm. Love a good craft wheat beer...

They were busy painting the outside today, a very bright blue.

Went in there last night, really nice, enjoyed it. They have a very good selection too. Hopefully it takes off. Nice to have something different.

Was the brewery a proposed site of a potential Wateford/Carlow/Kilkenny University campus?

thought it was, doesn't every campus have a bar.
