Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We are getting a stove with back boiler and solar panels fitted soon. I am wondering what size tank to get fitted. The plumber is recomending i go for a triple coil 200 litre tank while I was thinking getting the 300 litre tank. House is a 4 bed detached approx 2000sq ft. Any advice appreciated on this one.

How many people is it catering for?

the rule of thumb way to do it is to say there is an average of 40 -50 litres of hot water per person per day.
So 5 people would mean a 250 lite tank anyway. Thats the rule of thumb.

The best way to work from this figure is to then look at your usage is is likely to be around this average or more ?

For instance some people want 3 bar pressure to their showers etc, this would be capable of pumping about 60l/min running flat out.

Mostly people ask for 1.5 - 2 bar shower pumps this would vary but 20l/min is a figure i have seen a few times.

If you plan on having a large bath that gets frequent use then it would be better to consider the bigger tank etc. Use the rule of thumb and then decide if you will be using more than average yourself.

If this is in an existing house, what type of showers are in there currently.

Strange no one has mentioned the size of the collectors? This is pretty critical.

    Hi
I see you are going for a triple coil tank therefore you have a stove, you would be best to fit a 300 litre thank in order to give you a large store of hot water from the stove in winter.
The 300 litre tank will need a minimum of 3 solar flat panels or 40-50 evacuated tubes for excellent results, regardless of the make of solar system.
Do you have the height in the hotpress for a 300 litre?

But you cant size collectors until you decide on your hot water demand and storage requirements. If you sized the collectors first that would determine the tank size, which is working the wrong way round.

Yes absolutely but the OP is getting a system "fitted soon" and therefore needs to know how big the collectors need to be to ensure the cylinder size is matched. It hadn't been mentioned.
