July too late for a J1

Hey guys! Based on the opinions of those of you who have gone on J1, do you think getting out to the US in the first week of July is too late? I'm thinking all of the jobs and accommodation could be gone at that stage? Cheers!

Perhaps if you said where in the US you are thinking of going, you may get more responses. The USA is a very, very big country. No two cities & states are going to be the same when it comes to summer jobs and accommodation.
