The new HD studio is supposed to be able to accommodate an audience. I think you're spot on, an audience would've injected a bit of life into the programme. I'm beginning to doze off here.

To be fair the audience last night didn't get any input for the first 20 minutes or so, so I'm not sure what value they'd be adding here.

Yes might have been more suited to the Helix tonight.

Never posted here before and probably won't for another blue moon but I just want to say it's an awful pity that a debate over the Seanad is taking place and David Norris isn't involved :(

At least he'd go down swinging :)

must be the first referendum ever that s.f. support a yes vote.

    And the Socialist Party.

I feel weird about being on the same side as Fianna Fail and Michael McDowell, but it could be a whole lot worse...

Maybe the Oireachtas can rent out the old Seanad Chamber to TV3 for their next debate!

David Norris was involved in a Seanad debate this evening on Newstalk's Right Hook. It will be on their player if you want to listen to it.

I heard it's being turned into a nightclub for the TDs.

I don't like McDowell, but I wouldn't want to have him cross examining me in Court.

    He is a formidable opponent.

This would be good if in the end it finishes with a celebrity death match.

VB the worst person to control a debate, he just can't do it

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,309 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

McDowell performing poorly so far, not like him to be so bad! He's usually a polished performer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,840 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

I know I said this above, but this just doesn't add up for me..

Bruton is very passionate and determined about scrapping the senate and I don't for a second believe it's to save money and put his friends and colleagues out of jobs. Not when the government (present or past) has no problem squandering the taxes of the people every day!

What is REALLY going on here?

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,403 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

Thought we'd seen the back of that McDowell for good, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Next thing Mary Harney will start making a re-appearance in the media, please no

The more I watch this the more I'm becoming convinced that this is just a smokescreen or first step to something a lot more sinister and far-reaching

Federal Europe to be implemented perhaps?

But do you honestly believe the gobsh1tes in the Seanad could anything to stop it?

Martin giving a typical polished performance, easily the best there

I love the way FG have gotten all precious about their election pledge to have a referendum to abolish the Seanad, it's a shame that they binned a lot of their other promises

Yes, he has no idea how to moderate - every single time he gets involved in an argument about an unimportant point with one of the debaters. Too interested in his own opinion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,747 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Yes, we can trust this government to keep their promises :pac:

I think the Seanad is a distraction. It's the removal of the article that allows a bill to be referred to the people in a referendum that is the real objective I think.

It opens the door for wholesale changes to be pushed through without any chance of opposition or need to bother with things like Lisbon 1/2 etc...

    Something just doesn't add up

The big surprise tonight, is the SF/FG marriage before the people. That must sicken the LP.

Was it wise of Vinnie to write this, just before he's supposed to be an "impartial" chairman in a televised Seanad debate??
