    So is Sean Barratt.

For all their "elitism", the universities seem to elect the best senators.

He would agree with you, that's why he is calling for the Seanad to be reformed.

I know a few of them personally. None of them worthy of such high office. Funeral attenders mainly.

A commercial organisation trying to generate advertising funds. Who'd have thunk it.

Martin Mcaleese in there wha' -

Nice one Mary (keep all your €141k per annum pension), you might need it for when Martin loses his job (oh sure won't he have a pension too)

I tend to agree with you, but I think that every citizen should have a vote in the Seanad Election (after all we pay for it) and the Taoiseach shouldn't be allowed 11 nominees.

Reading through them I recognise 9 names, the rest I've never heard of, rather shocking really.

Martin resigned from the Seanad a while back. He didn't take his full Seanad salary either.

Ronan Mullen is good at what he does in my opinion.

Ivana Bacik is the one that I would have issues with.

Though those two do seem to clash a lot.

Why does this debate only involve people who part of the elite few who could possibly become senators. A typical in-house discussion?

The resentment comes from the need to be a graduate of TCD or the NUI, not the need to hold a degree.

The reason they have an enormous majority is because of the mess your party made of the country

We could do with a few businessmen (non-politicians) to join a debate like this.

Mullen wouldn't let much past him. Bit of a victim complex Ryan Shawcross

Bacik can't get elected with the general public. It's galling that she has a Senate seat despite the fact that she has no popular support.
