It seems to me that a legal challenge should be taken over this. The Government is discriminating on grounds of a person's age.
This used to happen with redundancy payments too, but it was changed in 2003.

I heard some ambassador's wife being interviewed a few years ago about her time in Ireland and she said....

"The Irish are a lovely people but they lack a sense of outrage", I think she was right, we are very slow to challenge authority.

We really need a section of society to "go a bit mad" - a bit like the over-70s briefly did in 2008, when their medical cards were threatened and they heckled that Fianna Fail junior minister and grabbed his microphone when he was making a speech. It's pretty sad that that one minor incident is probably the closest we've come to any sort of civil disobedience in the last five years. Either that or the guy who threw a couple of eggs at the Bank of Ireland AGM.

It would be ugly and unpleasant, but I can't help thinking that a massive riot is needed. The obedience is getting embarrassing at this stage.

Ah Ray, how could you forget about Joe aka 'The Anglo Avenger' who rammed the gates of Leinster House with his 'Anglo Irish Toxic Bank' Cement truck ;)

Well rammed would be a slight overstatement there MrsD, he parked it up nicely and put the handbrake on :D

Something Vinnie mentioned last night has a ring of truth about it. I wouldn't want to be associated with any protest organised by Sinn Fein or loonies like Eirigi or the Socialist Workers Party. People like that put off normal folk from wanting to go out protesting.

The only protest I've gone out on is the one for Waterford Regional Hospital around this time last year which was fairly massive but in the weeks and months after the march it all rather faded away. There's no real non-governmental bi-partisan movement with organizational capabilities here, that I'm aware of anyway.

Just watched last nights programme, some of these people think the world owes them a living.

That hunger striker fool should have got no air time at all.

LOL, M Martin asking Kenny to commit to reversing the cuts for the elderly yesterday !! Like yeh he's gonna do that.

Hard to take a lecture from Martin seriously.
As much as i hate Enda's usual facile response about FF, it's hard to listen to a lecture from the people who brought this about.
    Martin talking about credibility now.
Jesus, just a Punch and Judy show.

Even if you put aside FF's recent economic history, it's hard to take them seriously. They would be making the same cuts (disability services, etc) if they were still in power.

The blame game has to stop, they are in government and is in power for the last two an a half years, the opposition who are now in government were the cheer leaders during the tiger years. Cut the $hit all the clowns were all involved. Move on and stop using the blame game. Govern which you were elected to do not keeping repeating " oh he started it first. Get a grip you parasites.
