I don't think the elderly should be having to worry about money when they are in the twilight of their lives.
But they are faced with the extra charges the state has brought in too.

Times in the past were harder than now, they deserve a break, times were worse when they were younger.

Do older people worry about money? Especially OAPs that have private pensions as well the state pension.

Bus passes, medical cards, subsidies, no mortgage, no kids at home. Things are pretty good for older people.

I live in rural Ireland and my car was broken into and the tax, insurance and NCT cert stolen.
The Guards which included a detective a got lost trying to my home.

At least I wasn't known to them :pac:

If as you say that you live in rural Ireland, I would think you would have a better understanding about what it is like. Do you communicate with your neighbors.
    Where I live is real.

Ones with private pensions are doing great.

Ones who only have the state pension are in a different category. The bus pass is useless for rural elderly people. My elderly father never uses it as there is no public transport here. I have to drive him to where he wants to go.
He has the medical card, but then elderly people will have medical problems at some point.
Maybe if you are elderly and have private health insurance you shouldn't have a medical card, as money mustn't be an issue.

Overall I agree, things are pretty good for older people

I am not that old, but when I hear a noise at night and in bed, maybe the dogs start barking, well you think the worse, you hear about houses not that far away that have been broken into.
Then you get random people coming trying to sell stuff you don't want and they don't understand the word no.

We have good neighbours around here, but you would only talk to them when you see them, it would not be regular, unless something like a funeral in the house, snowed in - high ground around here, and then one would be looking out for eachother.

I don't know what it is about Sean Healy but he puts me in bad humour as soon as I see him. I know he is concerned for his people by the way.

His concern for the downtrodden rings hollow after his days as mouthpeace for CORI when the religous orders refused to make any contribution to the welfare of the people whose life they blighted. You don't hear him talk much about that bit of injustice!

I find it very hard to listen to McGuirk pontificating after reading about his Credit Union loan debt.

John McGuirk, a former communications director for Libertas, has had a €10,000 judgment registered against him in Stubbs Gazette by Ballybay credit union in Monaghan. McGuirk, an unsuccessful general election candidate last year, said the debt was part of a €25,000 loan he took out to furnish an apartment in Dublin. He said he had consented to the judgment.
