Yeah but the fact that there are still FF voters is frightening.

There are very few decent alternatives unfortunately.
It's FF or FF Lite. Zig or Zag. No decent competition.

The competition is those who didn't bankrupt the country.

But they were the Trappist Monks of the Dail sitting in silence.
They also agreed the bail-out and never thought to examine the Anglo finances.

    Just as guilty imo.

So that is Labour and a few Independents then? The rest in the Dail voted for the bailout that is the source of our woes.

Surely the more pertinent question is not who voted for the bail-out but on whose watch & in whose interest was a situation allowed (encouraged?) to develope that generated the requirement for a bail-out.

The opposition should have demanded access to the books of a private bank - get a grip!

If they were going to agree to a bank guarantee then YES they should have known and checked out what they were agreeing to. Two showers of gobs***** were in the Dail.
They bought a pig in a poke. There were enough economists who were advising against it too.
They should have got a grip.

Fionnan Sheahan loses his head with Vincent Browne

    That's quite something, alright.

In my opinion, Browne handled that well but Sheahan came close to disgracing both himself and his profession.

Never thought I'd hear the day when one journalist would encourage another to basically accept the party line and 'move on'.

It's the job of a professional journalist to 'ask the question' no matter - or indeed especially - if it discomforts the interviewee.

But Sheahan's been verging out of control for some time, both on radio and TV.

He seems to regard himself as a 'player' now in political events, rather than a journalist working on behalf of the public.

Someone needs to take him aside and remind him about basic professionalism regarding his demeanour and mode of discourse.

If he wants to interject himself into events, he should consider resigning his journalistic commission and resuming his political career - sidelined since his student days - thus actively joining his wife in the political game...

    Fair play to Keavney.
    Seems a decent sort.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,585 ✭✭✭✭Lady Chatterton

I feel that Keaveney is using the Special Needs issue to his own advantage, he knows that he has no hope of getting re-elected if he sticks with Labour, so he has decided to jump ship.

    Well,,
just wondering whats peoples athoughts are at the alleged banning of Fionnn Sheahan from Tonight with VB show?

Think he was right in what he said the last night but maybe went a bit overboard too... in general think TV3 hae got that decision wrong...

TV3 issued a statement saying that no one has been banned from the show and that includes Sheahan.

    Earlier today.
TV3 denies that Fionnan Sheahan is banned from the Vincent Browne show

The Irish Independent claimed today that its political editor has been banned from the programme following a heated exchange between the pair on Monday.

TV3 HAS INSISTED today that the political editor of the Irish Independent is not barred from the station or appearing on ‘Tonight with Vincent Browne’ despite a report in that newspaper this morning.

If Sheahan isn't on a contract with TV3 they're under no obligation to him.

Mybe, but if you look back at the shows with some of the independent reporters Vs other papers reporters, he does go a bit overboard with them, especially that lad that had the story about John McGuiness

The McGuinness affair shows you how newspapers manipulate politics, VB was correct in the critical way he dealt with that gent. Proven by McGuiness's FG deputy chair as where that story came from, and who was instrumental in pushing it.

Newspapers can only report what stories they get and look for..
Yes of course Media drives/manipulates politics to a degree..we cant trust the politicians...
Are you saying they should not have reported those stories? Im confused..
