    coil pack issue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,792 ✭✭✭Ded_Zebra

    coil pack issue?

It would be missing on 2 cylinders if that was the case afaik as there are 2 coils for the 4 cylinders DGT Might correct me in a min :D. I would guess plugs or leads.

    Spot on ;)

Could be leads breaking down internally or expired plugs

What would be the worst case scenario with that dark 156?

What would be the worst case scenario with that dark 156?

Depends what you mean by worst.

Worst case is it's completely rotten and held together by paint (see my post on the Today thread for an example)

Rack gone, clutch cylinder gone could also be a headache

Not sure if it actually needs any fixing, but there is no NCT so it's not allowed in the Bangernomics thread..
If the genuine miles check out could be a decent motor, possibly family selling for an elderly relative..??

The belt snapping on the way home!

There's plenty of 156's out there. Buy one that's been looked after (belts changed when due, regularly serviced etc.)

what would the mpg be on this on short runs, .most of my driveing is school runs, with the odd trip to the city, as it is an auto it would be ideal for me, i am woundering if i could afford to run it.

You will get just over 31mpg (9.1l/100km) on a long run.
You will get 25mpg (11l/100km) mixed and even less with just stop start short runs.
If the mileage is right and the nct just expired, its a bargain.
    I have an '04 s80 and I love it.

Full disclosure, this is mine, for anyone who wants a cheap motor that cost f/a to run, its been very well maintained but will need a few bits for the test, i have them got (except tyres) just dont have time to fit. Ive had it for 2 yrs and the previous owner had it for 8. In kinvara Galway.

You might want to mention that in the ad.

BTW what kind of MPG does that work out as on long runs ? Looking at getting an estate version of that or a 406 estate around Christmas.

i was also under the impression the TDDi was a better engine. the TDCi seems to have problems with pretty much everything, injectors, EGR's, timing chains, DMF's etc...

In a way they are actually right. In reliability terms the tddi is the better engine Imo. Performance is another story though.

Also while the tddi isn't the most refined engine on the planet, it no where near as bad as that magazine you mentioned described it as being :D

The mondeo has been for sale 3 times in the last 3 months by 3 different owners.

I also found this:http://www.adverts.ie/car/ford/mondeo/2001-mondeo-bumper/3360740. so the mondeo possibly had a tip/crash in the past.

I had one of those before and it was lively enough whilst being good on fuel. And the boot was massive. As far as i know it is the same running gear as the mazda 6 of that time. Resale value is pathetic but for 500 meh

Stoooop! I can't buy a new car 'till A) I find a new job or B) I buy all my christmas presents for the year. :p
    So little money.

I always have to wonder whether they'd take the Mazda for it.

    Straight 6. ;)
I can get quotes on the Mazda, it's just my current insurer wont take anything over 20 years old.
I'd keep the Mazda if the Almera was still alive but I'm gonna need 1 car to do all now. An E36 will hold the dogs and slide. :pac:

I payed €175 less for my almera in a better state than that.

I got quoted on a 350Z, not cheaply but that was a year ago with all the correct details, I'd say dropped a liter and the value of the car would see a better price.

Turn 23 on Sunday don't forget, being slightly older has it's advantages. :p
I'll be put on my dad's policy in the next few daysweeks and I'll do my test again. that'll help too. ;)

Voluntary excess of €500 each time but I think they have a standard €3000. Pretty miserable alright.

It will go down even more when you've built up a NCB, which you already know. S14's are nice, I'd go for that if those are the quotes, suprised that its cheaper than a 2.5 BM. Clean ones are impossible to come by, however. I'd try different brokers, I got some reasonable quotes from AXA at your age.
