While I support your intention, it doesn't quite make sense if a large section of people living in those places use the English names in everyday conversation. If that's the case then both the Irish and English must be accepted when people are inquiring, or if correction is the way to go, the at least a gentle an explanation to someone who mightn't get the reason for correction? :D

You made a small typo on Inverin as Gaeilge, but lets not get bogged down by semantics

I do remember some friends of mine knew someone in the Galway flying club and would often go out with them for the "spin" as they were logging in flight time or something, never cost them anything and it was at the discretion of the pilot. They might be able to do something for you.

Flying clubs can't take passengers on scenic flights. An individual club member can take you flying but obviously you have to know them and they cannot accept money. Clubs do offer trial lessons but that's different and you simply cannot turn up on a nice day and go flying and you must be alone. That is not the same as a scenic flight.

In order to offer scenic flights an operator must be appropriately licensed and the pilots professionally qualified. At this moment there is no one in Galway Airport offering this service.

But watch this space. That's going to change quite soon.

It's a flying lesson, you sit in the pilot's seat with an Instructor beside you. It's expected you handle the controls for at least part of the flight and be instructed in their use before flight and a debriefing afterwards. It's intended as an introduction to flying for potential future members of the flying club. In fact you become a member for the the duration of the flight. It can actually be logged in a pilot log book.

It's not a joyride and if it was sold as such the flying club would soon be in hot water with the authorities. There are very strict regulations relating to passenger flights. If there wasn't every Tom, Dick and Harry with a plane would be selling tickets to unsuspecting members of the public.

But if anything a flying lesson is more fun than a mere joyride and the view is just as good.
