As a British citizen, particularly one from the North of England where she ravaged the mines and industrial heart of the country, destroying millions of lives including those of many people I know, I can't say I will shed a tear.

However, I also don't believe in gloating over someone's death, so that it all I will comment on it.

Not all the people, but certainly the working classes and especially the miners. The cultural legacy of the miners strike is still felt in towns all over the North of England.

The upper stratum of British society had a lot to thank her for though.

The fact that so many people hated her is a testament to the impact she had. She had a vision and she had the wherewithal to see it implemented. Didn't agree with much of her views but I respect her for her steeliness. Not mourning or celebrating, just another part of my childhood no longer around.

You could say the same about a certain German called Adolf (Godwin's aside).

The majority of British society has her to thank. People have come to realise that Thatcherism was a necessary evil.

My Dad, a right wing, conservative ex-British military officer loved her and everything she stood for. As did the rest of his upper middle class peers. Lover her or loath her, she has made her mark in history.

With all the threads about her over the years on this site, we can only imagine that the pubs will be filled with people celebrating her passing this evening. The pints will flow, the ballads will be gutsy and the tears of unfettered job will be there for all to see.

Yet hugely popular too, might not be appreciated in Ireland or arthur scargills grave. She still was a political colossus (not to be confused with Dr.colossus)

She did pull the UK out of what looked like a death spiral - which is not to say that her policies were easy or popular. I don't think people realise what a disaster that place had become by the 70s. The IMF had to bail them out in '76.

    Wasn't he Austrian?

    So was Margaret Thatcher

Who's going to pay for the funeral?

It might have been a more interesting question under Miliband.

No Loss, more people hated her in the UK than do here. I'm sure the Argentines won't mourn here either nor will any true Irish Republican or Nationalist patriot.

I think most people wouldn't be against the sort of hold the unions had over economic life in the UK pre Thatcher, in the context of those times, but it couldn't last if Britain was to stay competitive.

She's never going to be thanked by the majority for toppling the status quo.

Awful comments being made by people on here and on other websites about her. Unbelievably cruel comments.

Criticise her till the cows come home but the talk about how people wished she spent her last moments and where she's heading now is beneath contempt.

    Stay classy internet.
