    01:58, 16 June 2013 by Fearghal O'Connor
<img class="art" style="display: none;"> The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is to move major air traffic control functions from Dublin to Shannon in a bid to reorganise Irish airspace.

Took the DART test today. Pretty confident i did well but its pretty hard to gauge really.

Apparently we will all know results by friday

Took the DART test today. The last part is quite tough. Not fancying my chances of advancing. Ah well at least I gave it a shot!!
Anyone know how many get through, I am assuming there were 240 at the DART stage (40 computers x 3 days x 2 sessions)

Took it today myself, thought it was challenging but I quite enjoyed it really, that said, I had a hard time with the last exam so who's to know how well we did? Where did you hear that we'd know by tomorrow?

Recently a few controllers got stationed to cork so my guess is thats full (enough) and as Dublin is movin to Shannon you can imagine any positions that develop up there in the next few years will be offered to the controllers that have to move from Dublin or even those already in Shannon looking for transfer. Shannon tower/approach may need a few controllers in the next year or two but either way my guess is all jobs offered will be Shannon based.

Those of you that did it. Did ye have many conflicts/ collisions?

  • Registered Users Posts: 27 hashbones

I had one conflict in the final test where 2 planes were a bit to close to each other.

    Cheers for the response.

I too had one conflict in the 5th test. Im a little worried that one conflict is one too many tbh.

Or at least Im assuming it was a conflict... if it was a collision I assume the planes in question would disappear off the radar? Any ideas?

if you had one in the 5th and none in the 6th you didn't do to bad. Mine occurred in the 6th.

No i don't know if the planes would disappear or not

My main worry is that it was a collision rather than a conflict really.

Hey, took dart test today. Had one collision in the fifth plus one in the sixth. Not overly confident. Curious to know how anyone else done with collisions

Actual collisions or just warnings? Can you describe it?

Im not sure if mine was a collision or not.

Think it trust went red for few seconds then turned green when I evaded. Never actually crossed exact path or disappeared after

Sounds like a conflict but I honestly have no idea.

was at 2:30pm session. had one of those red flashing warning lights as well but i think i changed the level in time. is there some rule about conflicts that means if you get so many you are disqualified?

For all interested 95% of jobs available for students in this are going to be in Shannon as Shannon has gained more responsibility in European airspace. And has 2 bases (the tower and the HQ) and has a much broader area to control with a lot more traffic. Dublin doesn't have as much with all flights from USA etc controlled by Shannon when they cross Irish airspace.

I sat the DART myself on Wednesday. I enjoyed it but I very much doubt I performed to the standard required. A fire engine appeared on my screen for a moment! This happen anyone else!!?

Seems like it will be more challenging than before for those who are successful with all the changes in paid training, rate of pay and a change in location of where the majority of jobs will be available. It adds weight to the argument made earlier that those from close to Shannon can benefit the most. At the same time there's no great reward without great sacrifice.

    Not a thing yet

  • Registered Users Posts: 25 groundcontrol

Nope, haven't heard anything yet. Not that I'm really expecting a positive response. Then again I thought I made a mess of the FEAST section as well.

    And I'm out. :(

Knew myself when I finished that I hadn't given it my best shot and could have done a whole lot better, so I'm very disappointed but can't say I'm surprised.

Wish the best of luck to those who have succeeded in progressing from the DART stage.
