    They're under pressure with wholesale like anyone else, but how busy they are shows how savvy us lot are to research all groceries.

    I got 3 bits of sirloin from them on Saturday, really nice eating. Saw sirloin in Tescos yesterday and compared the price by weight, DMC 62% cheaper,unbelieveable difference for good quality

    i agree on the quality but i have my gleesons loyalty card now so i reckon i'll only use DMC for steak the odd time.

    They are doing 4 6oz fillet steaks for €15 this week which isn't bad.
    Had their rib roast over the weekend which was very nice but wasn't that happy with their mince which I bought as part of a weekly special.

    1-5 Thursday and Friday.

    Can't get my head around the set up, it's like because they sell to their staff that they have to open to the public reluctantly as the shop :pac:only holds about 6 people, you never know what they will have, when what is in the 6 foot display cooler is gone it's gone, sometimes.:confused:, sometimes they go into the factory and bring out another box.

    The prices make the hassle worth it though for eg DMC have the 4 fillet steaks on special offer this week, which works out as €39.90 a kilo while Kepak have it on sale all the time at €22 a kilo.

    Get there if you can about 12.50pm as a queue gathers at the gate.

    I know it is my own fault for going back so this is not a complaint as such, more an observation. I have now tried the Dublin Meat Co 3 times and got different products.

    Yes they might be cheap but I find the quality of beef and steaks is at best poor, I would even go as far as to say some of it being the worst I have ever eaten. I would prefer to pay more for good quality.

    I will add, I worked in catering for 15 years and I do know how to cook and cook properly.

    I also have to say that my initial excitement about DMC opening here has worn off. THe first time I went there I bought a leg of lamb, which was really good value and certainly very nice, but nothing extraordinary either. I kept going back for things like chicken and lamb shanks and stuff like this. The chicken to be honest wasn't even much cheaper than other offers from other places if I remember correctly. So after a few weeks I've actually started going back to Gleesons for my meat purchases as I couldn't really see a great difference/advantage with DMC and I really like all the BBQ stuff in Gleesons for example. But I suppose the nice thing is to have choice in the area.

    Does Sweeneys not give a choice in Laurel Lodge? I go there most of the time as I find their stuff is really tasty

    Sweeneys have never let me down, good butcher.

    By the way if you are going up to Kepak I wouldn't bother getting the small packs of pork ribs €3 each, had them last night, all bone.

    Yeah, I meant choice in the sense of it's good to have all the different butchers/wholesale places etc. in the area to pick from.

Bought two packs so there's one still in the freezer but to be honest they were that skinny it was more like quick frying steaks. There is more meat in the Aldi Selected range and of far better quality for in and around the same price.

    I also got a bag of chicken balls from DMC that were average enough.

    I agree with what you say, I think DMC really cater for the BBQ market/young persons market if you will but I as an oldie won't turn my nose up at a bargain if I can find it but think I didn't.

    I bought their €12 special last week, 5 pork chops (fine but very small) 800gr mince (didn't like it) and 4 chicken breasts (small but ok).

    If having a barbie I might give them a visit but if looking for a prime cut no.

    Visit to Kepak yesterday and picked up a full striploin for €38. When I cut it up, I got 16 fine sized steaks out of it. There was lovely marbeling through it but I guess the proof will be in the eating, but for now, they are gone in the freezer.

    Got a kg of Fillet Steak for €22, which when I weighed it, turned out to be 1.2kg. Was pre cut in a vacum bag and when I openend it, probably about 12 pieces. Maybe 3 decent steaks and the rest you would be wanting 2 pieces anyway. Would have been nicer if they sold a full Fillet that I could have cut up myself in sizes I would like. Have some stuck away in the freezer and some in the Fridge marinading for tonight :)

    Got 2 Rump Caps. Look pretty tasty and both very very decent sizes, about €10 each. One in the Freezer and one for dinner tomorrow

    I worked in the meat industry for 6 years. You are spot on, the price of beef never drops below a certain price.

    If a product is too cheap I would have my suspicions.

    Just an update on the Rump Cap. So I fired up the charcoals on Saturday and cooked her Picanha Style, not on a rotating spit, that's what my BBQ tongs are for.
    Had the Folks in Law over and the 4 of us were well fed with some very tasty meat.
    Next time, it'll be 5 or 6 of them Rump Caps :)

    That's exactly what I done, bought 1, never heard of rump cap before, had it and was hooked.
    Next week bought €150 for the freezer.
    Is it on sale under a different name/cut in other shops?
    There mince is really good, texture is very different to most butchers, very little fat, fillet steak mince.:pac:

    gone back for the 4th time and still very happy.

    breakfast pack. will get road tested today by the inlaws
    low fat turkey sausages. pretty good considering, but didn't actually say how low fat and they are 30% pork, so who knows.
    pack of sliced ham. wouldn't win any awards, but tasty enough for the price
    beef shin, will be slow cooked in a stew tomo, will let you know how that goes.
    big thick fresh cut ribeye, also done on the bbq at the weekend and was very tasty and tender
    sideloin lamb chops, very tender and very tasty with a homemade dry rub done on the bbq and got eaten straight from the grill before everything else was ready. :D
    pork belly ribs, also dry rubbed and on the bbq, very tasty again, but slowly roasted on the BBQ over a low heat for 3 hours with a nice dry rub, just about anything would be. :D
    also got some nice looking salmon darnes to eat tonight, so hopefully they're tasty too.

    only if you're Jewish our Muslim and don't check the packaging!

    although I suppose at least it's better than getting a beef burger that's 30% horse.

    salmon was really nice btw, also forgot that I got their big burgers and they were good too. I think they were labeled prime or something like that. 3 big fat burgers in a pack anyway.

    I've gone right off this place gone back to my old butcher. I got stirloin a couple of weeks ago it was awful. Dunes r better. Bought the fillet steaks on the offer they were not great for an extra fiver u could get 10times better. There chicken fillets are the same price as everywhere else.
    Can see them losing custom very quick. Ive heard of a good few who have returned to their original butcher.

    Tried this place recently having been to the shop in Artane a number of times.

    I think that the stuff in there is very good quality. Particularly their mince, sausages and bbq stuff. The other thing that I always buy are their chicken goujons....they are €8 and the chicken in them is not processed....the kids love them.

    Its definitely a step above the supermarkets and on a par with other butchers. Now look, if I am looking for onglet or sweetbreads, I do go to a specialist butcher, but for standard fare, I'm very happy with what I get from these guys.

    Ok I said that I had enough meat bought from Kepak to do me about 2 months but as I was in the area dropped in to see what was on offer.

    They had a lot more cuts, lots of lamb at good prices.

    They were doing lamb pieces, no bone, fat, €8 a kilo, perfect for Kebabs if we get the weather.

    And at last they had some ribeye, €10 a kilo in packs of about 2.5 kilo, already cut which was a bit of a shame but had 2 pieces last night 8-10 oz each and it was great.

    Are you sure they where charging €10 a kilo for rib eyes as its not possible to buy wholesale at close to that price ?

    Was on their notice board and a sign in the fridge saying ribeye €10 a kilo, it was €9.50 about a month ago.

    I'm no expert/butcher but it looked and tasted like ribeye, on the invoice it is called Full Cuberoll which is ribeye isn't it.

    I also got 2 packs of 4 striploin steaks at €9.50 a kilo, when I weighed them at home both were just over 1.2 kilos.

    That is correct, that is also a great price when you consider the cost price. The cuberolls, are they Irish

    I've just seen their mobile advertising when I was driving down Mountview Road. It was a guy in a wheelchair pulling a trailer behind him with signs for DMC on it. It must have been pretty heavy because he really appeared to be struggling. I actually felt quite sorry for the guy.
