Tried the Costcutters at Windy Arbour and Spar at Clonskeagh and Cherrywood. Nothing :(

They did it the wrong way around.

What they should have done is just covered Tayto Crisps in melted chocolate, bagged them up and sold them as Chocolate Tayto.

Right, you can't really taste the crisps apart from a bit of an aftertaste. And even then you its quite a mild crispy flavour. Given the choice i'd prefer my crisps and chocolate seperate from each other.

But i always prefer them seperate, so thats no real surprise.

Its not awful, though. Like i'd eat it if i had no other bar. Probably overpriced though. It was on the counter close to 1 euro Toffee Crisps (the bar, lest there be any confusion), for jaysis sake.

Now, time for Time Out and tea.

Exactly my feelings except for the price bit 'cos my son brought one home from Dublin today and I didn't ask him how much it was. Not enough of a crisp flavour but a definite aftertaste.

Interesting vid but that fake accent wrecks my head. Is it supposed to be funny?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,659 ✭✭✭CrazyRabbit

So this bar...is a quarter of it green and mouldy looking just like their crisps?

Has anyone seen these in any shops around Dublin or suburbs? Had a strange dream where I tried one and now it's stuck in my noggin'! Damn advertising seems to work!

I've been keeping an eye out but cannot seem to find them anywhere. I am led to believe that Spar and Centra are going to be stocking them, but as I said I haven't found them yet :(

Love having Tayto and Dairy Milk together, but from what I have read this bar is made with Butlers chocolate... Will it be as good?

To date, I've tried 5 shops around south Dublin. 2 Spars, a Costcutter, a Gala and a Londis. Nothing

My fingers are now crossed for the release of my other culinary fusion delight - easy singles with essence of chipsticks.
I'll get working on the prototype...

Dang it! I was actually never a fan of crisps mixed with chocolate and been on a health buzz for the last while too, but this is something I have to try! I won't feel Irish unless I do! :D If I spot them I'll post up, I'll head out on a recce mission today!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,203 ✭✭✭sfwcork

Cant find them around cork city either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭unichick

A colleague bought a bar in the local Spar. It was much smaller than it looks in the pictures I've seen. I was not a fan. Chocolate is poor quality. I will not be purchasing one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭Irishchick

Why does he have a pack of cigarettes and a lighter in the fridge!???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,081 ✭✭✭ollie1

They are sold out everywhere so you wont find any but the shops will be getting more soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,678 ✭✭✭jjbrien

One poster said Spar in Drumcondra has them. I searched high and low around Mullingar to find one no shop got them in stock makes me want to move back to Dublin

So much promise, so little delievery. Not enough crisps and the wrong chocolate. Leaves an aftertaste akin to carrots and stale vomit. Use Cadbury's next time, Tayto.

Tried this today. Horrible. Just greasy salty chocolate taste.

I remember when I was younger eating Dairy Milk and Tayto together.....ended up puking all over the place.

Just had one there. It was actually quite nice, but a bit small. The butlers chocolate is great, and I can't believe anybody who says "it should be cadburys". Cadburys is so damn cheap and crap.

So is it mixed with chocolate? If it is I have a feeling it won't be nice, but as a person who loves crisps I won't make a decision until I taste it :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭RossFixxxed

    LOVE chocolate. LOVE crisps.

The very first chocolate bar I did not finish. Well done Tayto, that's a weird achievement. Way to ruin it. Sub par chocolate and soft, flavourless bits of crisps in it? YUCK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,709 ✭✭✭✭Mr. CooL ICE

To date, I've had one square of the thing.

I can't find anywhere that sells them. Every place seems to not stock them or be sold out. One person in work bought one and allowed me to rob a square and from what I can tell, its grand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,730 ✭✭✭✭entropi

Still haven't managed to find one of these anywhere I've looked!

Can't bate a packet of cheese & onion with a broken up bar of plain chocolate though :)

Believe it or not! Everybody seems to think its the best chocolate going though. Its like saying Brennans sliced pan is good, when really is soggy starchy crap.
People like cheaply made stuff I guess.

Butlers, i am surprised by that

it was so bad i thought it was Caffreys

I thought it was lecker, tasted exactly how I had imagined

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Here Come The Pretzels

Yeah I was disappointed too. After hearing all the bad reports I still held out some hope that it would deliver. Nope. My god that chocolate is woeful.
10/10 for thinking outside the snack box, 2/10 for quality. Boo!

The centra on the corner of Parnell and Moore street stocks them if anyone wants to judge for themselves...

I have never not finished a chocolate bar but I got through one square of this and barely managed to swallow it. And the after taste.... Yuk! It just lingers!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

Have not tried these, or looked for them, but have make my own twice.

Two dairy milk bars, a small packet of king crisps, the second batch adding a teaspoon of dried peri peri seasoning.

    Both delish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭demakinz

Had one the other day, seen a few pictures of them on FB and was surprised how small it was but i enjoyed it all the same. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,023 ✭✭✭howtomake

Xmas consists of me stuffing my mouth with cadbury's, taytos and then wash it down with baileys. Then again I've been know to each sprinkled m&m cheese pizza.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 182 ✭✭Dizzicizzi

Okay have literally just finished one of these... Well actually I just finished two because my BF hated his so I ate it... I am classy like that :o.

Well the verdict, I was very disappointed. I have been searching for these for ages, like really looking forward to it. It's not right at all! There is too much chocolate and not enough cheese and onion flavour, but the biggest disappointment of all? It wasn't even real crisps in it... :( there were these little balls of... Well stuff, I don't even know what they were... Kinda like the balls of stuff that used to be in mint crisp bars, not even a little bit like crisps.

yeah... The after taste just hit me. It's nasty.

Got mine in a local Centra!

Uurgh, just had one of these. The same as eating a cheap chocolate bar after a packet of crisps and still have bits of the crisps stuck between your teeth. Don't bother if you still haven't tried it. Shame on you Mr. Tayto

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34,809 ✭✭✭✭smash

Possible the worst bar I've ever eaten!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,568 ✭✭✭candy-gal1

Meh, not great and not completely horrible either imho!
Bit of a late starter on these crisp bars as I only found them last week, the little newsagent by busaras and beside the LUAS there where they also have vanilla coke :D
Nice enough to eat, but that may have just been the novelty in my head of finding them at last :P:o, but yeah agreeing with most here on the aftertaste, it does linger quite a bit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭crockholm

    A noble idea,but a poor execution.

In time the bars will get better, thats why we're not driving model T's these days.

    Keep the faith.

Totally agree with you. Great idea, very disappointing in reality. And nowhere near enough crisps.

Tried one square of it last week. Didn't think it tasted too bad while I was eating it but holy hell, the aftertaste is VILE. Spent the rest of the day feeling like I was gonna vomit. Never again, it's rotten.

Yep. Tastes like the smell of feet.

It's like eating a piece of chocolate that's already been half-chewed by someone else...

...who was eating a bag of crisps.

Awful stuff. Some weirdos people seem to love it though.
