I'd love to know how the Independent got hold of the tapes

Where does the reporter that fronts the story generally gets his info from.

If I was to guess I would say it was leaked by a garda on the investigation team into Anglo, they would have seized all that stuff at the time, who has been in touch with Williams on previous occasions, possible frustrated by the lack of movement on the case.

Not really, depends on the cost. A company might not have the money to invest in the new back up technoligies. Plus tapes are cheaper and can hold more data than cd's and also tapes are bit more durable in that if you drop them you can pick them back up not problem but if you drop a cd you could loose a couple of monts worth of data.
