    That doesn't make sense - 11k interest over 6 months on a 107k loan - that's a massive interest rate...over 20%. Something's not right.

This would be an opportunity for Joe to do some good. He could get someone who knows the ins and outs to help John. Instead he will just use him for the misery porn.

I know people were greedy in the boom, just trying to keep up with the Jones but in honestly, why don't the government/central bank just say to the banks, stop, enough. Take each borrower in arrears and look at what they owe/what they can pay and sort it out properly. This makes no sense. This constant drip drip drip of people crying, banking being downright greedy, etc, its a mess

Speaking as part owner of all the banks, (like every other citizen), I do not want them to be writing off loans willy nilly. I want them to function like a proper business.

Well, while I believe John is genuine, there are many out there that would have you believe they are starving, when in fact they can afford to pay back their mortgage but don't wan't to or can't be bothered, so the banks have to be tough with people. I agree though, if you suddenly find yourself on the dole, there should be guidelines to save you from the hassle we are hearing.

The trouble is that they can't sell the 7 bed dormers (I have a 4 bed dormer in the sunny south east if anyone is interested :)).

The economy is in the sh1te until the banking/mortgage crisis is sorted out. People who have money are saving, not spending because they don't know what's coming around the corner.

If the country could move on from this, we then tighten the lending laws, and try and move forward as a country

    A proper business negotiates.

If the bank lent a 70 year old 100k to upgrade - serves them right. That wouldn't be good business practice and they should suffer the same as any other business that made a bad business decision.

If you make a bad business decision, the business is liable.

Thats why I said the banks look at each case individually, some were greedy and some were just stupid - but the banks have to look at how they ran their business
