I would venture to say that these experiences are the exceptions rather the rules

I know what you mean - like a previous poster said, anyone with an addiction blames everyone else, its never their fault.

I hope I'm never in the position of Pauline, but if I am, I hope I am strong enough to get my child help - I hope I'd never give up on them.

The problem with addicts of any type is that THEY have to WANT help. Families getting help for them never works.

Has anyone ever seen a medical patient being scolded for being "cheeky"?

What's wrong with Miriam O Callaghan

All this sounds pretty normal. Reflects many of the experiences I had with my mum when she was in hospital.

Certainly don't think it's taboo and don't see how this is worth putting on live line

On a side note, and I know she can't help it and I really like her as a journalist, but I'll never be able to read her articles again without hearing that accent!

"...except the M50 has a more comprehensible system....."

    I don't comprehend that.

I disagree, I have had a lot of experience in hospitals and I am pissed off with people always saying in public how wonderful doctors and nurses are. The truth is a bit different as we found out last week in Galway. They are just the same as people in any other walk of life, some good, some ok as many just incompetent.

Just read the article. It's a piece of s**t. Get this woman off the air

Apparently peoples relatives are all medical experts now

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,023 ✭✭✭Meathlass

I'd prefer the consultant to be saving lives than answering unnecessary questions from relatives. Surely that's what nurses do as they've the day to day contact with the patient.

    WHO is this imbecile?

    Is she a bit simple?

Tis soft the wool that grows on her anyways.

How did she get on the air in the first place?
Researcher reading a piece in the paper calls her??

Lots of elderly people are intimidated by people in so called authority like doctors, priests, guards etc,

My daughter spent alot of time in hospital when she was small due to chronic asthma - and I got good and alot of bad. Charts not being written up correctly and they thought she had diabetes! Nightmare

Upon further analysis This is the female David McWilliams accent

I remember back when liveline was good, this show would have started with..

Irate Caller: "Joe he just sunk his teeth in to that man's arm... like a shark, Joe... Like Jaws, Joe.. He was no better than Jaws.. "
    Joe: "Go on.. "

That's not what she said. She is making the point that peoples' relatives need to be listened to properly as they know a hell of a lot more about the patient than a chart might show you.

She's making some very valid points.

She's not much of a journalist if she doesn't know that complaints should be made to the hospital administrator.
