I have an aunt in a nursing home and my cousins do a roster and are in there every day - they feed her, take her to the bathroom, administer tablets - its disgraceful - and it costs €900 per WEEK - so they should have plenty of staff for the fees they charge

A housemate of mine works in a nursing home. tbh the stories he would tell completely scarred me. They were so understaffed as the wages were so low that no one would stay for long. It was like working on a conveyor belt with so many patients per hour to get washed, dressed, fed etc. I wouldn't put my worst enemy into it.

I would have thought if you have a close family member in hospital, you would want to go in to see them every day to make sure that they are okay, check their progress, cheer them up, keep them company etc and to make sure that they are being well looked after, as they are sick and not able to voice their concerns.

Of course you would like to visit and cheer them up etc, but if you work, or live in a different county etc, you shouldn't feel that you have to pay for carers to go into the hospital to give your family member basic patient care - that should be the hospitals job
