Just installed fitted wardrobes and would like 2-3 recessed lights overhead. Probably GU10 or similar. There is a double socket low on the stud partition wall which is directly behind and below where the double bed will sit. The idea is to fit the lighting in a vacant space behind the overhead units.

Plan is to isolate existing socket, fit a 3A switched spur fed from the socket ( located out of site but accessible, again on stud wall behind bed ) and run 1.5mm cable behind the plasterboard from spur up to the lighting point. Any advice?

    Nothing wrong with your suggestion.

Just make sure that you do have space behind to fish the cable and there are no noggins blocking your route.

Id remove the double socket 1st and check out the cable route before drilling any holes out for GU10 lights in the space above.;)

An 8-10 foot length of 16mm wide trunking lid is your best friend here for checking out the route.:)

Had the trunking to hand (luckily). The partition was plasterboard with the older style honeycomb paper centre. Screws up the "drop a cable" idea immediately. Very effective design all them years ago, and the trunking lid slices through this centre with little difficulty. 65mm hole saw and job done. Thanks lads.
