Asking religion in a job application?

    Is this legal? Can they do it? The company I was applying for had options:

    Roman Catholic
    Protestant
    Other Religion

    There was no option for irreligious or rather not say .... and it was a mandatory question :(

    Very often, this question's asked for religious profiling reasons. If you don't want to say, then just put 'Other'. If pressed, say you're a Jedi!

    And yes. It's legal.

    Do they have a Catholic quota? Some sort of affirmative action for minorities?

    I'm quite irreligious, and there was no option for that.

    It's required for monitoring purposes in N.I. under fair employment legislation. Typically only gathered by HR for statistical purposes and not attached to your resume so normally the interviewer does not see it.
