Pretty sure the fixerupper was a dark blue where the bangernomic is grey?

If she checks out i'll drive her home and my S60 will be up on DD (and here) during the week. I've become a little obsessed with Volvos! :pac:

The owner is a reputable auctioneer here in Limerick. A quick google of his number proved that. Might be hard to knock a few quid off it.

And a gigantic tax rate. I'll have to sleep on it

Superior car by far that A8. Go for it

If it was me buying, I would have the car scrutinised by an Audi indy. Use the outcome of it as a bargaining tool.

To be honest, I'm barely in a position to buy the S80 and it has to be taxed too. I'll be doing a lot of driving during the summer and I'd love to do it in an A8 but there is something about that ad that makes me wonder how genuine it is.

I'm actually driving myself crazy here.

Go for it. Go out one less night in the week. Bring sandwiches to work. Start drinking tap water instead of coke etc, :pac:
    You wont regret it.
But first of all get the reg. and do a report on it.
All the pictures there are crap and imo look as if the owner is hiding reg.
Taking photos in a forest, where the shadows hide any flaws. Not a good photo of inside. maybe ask for more.

Also check to see if the engine is warm when you get there, i usually prefer it if the engine is cold so that I can see if the engine starts fine.
Might sound stupid but everyone has their own checklist.
Basic tips when I go to buy a car privately:

    1) Always meet at the sellers house and check their I.D. corresponds to that address.
    2) Check that those details match the cars logbook
    3) Check the VIN matches from the chassis to the book
    4) check the discs to see if they correspond to the car as well.

I'll have to have a proper think about it over the next day or 2. Still have to see what the deal with insurance is yet. My age could affect it, although there is literally no difference in me insuring a 3.0l instead of a 2.0l. A 3.6l might be the difference though.

Ya they are in here somewhere from when I bought it last October. DGT posted the link. Bear in mind I've cleaned it up a bit since and put it through the NCT. Won't be selling it till I have something else purchased

While I agree with 3 & 4, 1 & 2 wouldn't worry me too much. Plenty of people don't want to meet at their house, which is understandable.

It is of course, but it would put me much more at ease instead of say a dealer trying to act privately.
Each to their own anyway :)

The audi has a full service history, which is a big plus.

That Audi ad "says" it has a full history. Just like hundreds ofother ads say they do. Until of course you go looking for the actual servicehistory.

When push comes to shove, I'd say it has a full history only when I see it myselfand the mileage stacks up, which is entirely possible.

The ad itself rings alarm bells (forest pics).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,331 ✭✭✭toyotaavensis

If you look at the ad there are photos of the FSH. Obviously you ring the dealer to confirm this but I would trust it as long as i can verify it

    When I'm selling a car :

    First meeting = public place.

If the buyer is serious and has done their homework we can go back to mine to sign paperwork. I will not and never have brought a stranger to the house on first viewings.

A stupid question, perhaps... but what is FSH?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,331 ✭✭✭toyotaavensis

    full service history
no such thing as a stupid question. The main reason I come to forums like this is to learn and the best way is to ask questions.

Full Service History, or in Ireland 'I'm bull****ting'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

Just as an aside, the 525 I recently bought was advertised with FSH and it did indeed have it. Phoned the garage and they confirmed it too.

So be careful not to generalise but being cautious and careful is always a good thing.

There are cars, many cars with FSH in Ireland. The problem is, people expect to buy them for the same price as the worse example with no FSH.

Not at all, but you have to admit most people don't know what a full service history is, I update my service book myself when I do standard service, or when the garage does work and I add receipts etc, but people think if they do that for a year or so of ownership it means full history.

Good point also, most people don't see the value of a full history also.

The reality is that service history is not a proper consideration for many Irish when buying cars.

People buy an Avensis and once it drives fine - and the mechanic thinks its okay (assuming they even got a mechanic to check it out) then service history is irrelevant.

The Uk is completely different on this score - an Audi without service history would be a lot harder to sell.

Over here - if its something like an A4 TDI it will fly out the gate - with a half different done deal add - all day long.

My last car the Nissan Primera had a full main dealer service history - book wasn't stamped and the uncle didn't keep any of the paperwork - Irish people don't seem to think of 'down the road' - I've a folder full of receipts as well as an excel sheet recording any servicing & maintenacne I do.

I've seen this picture before. I don't know if it was on this thread or just while I was looking through DoneDeal but I have definitely seen this car for sale with the exact same pic about 3 months ago.
