Boot lenovo x1 from USB

Normally, I would expect to just hit F12 and go to the boot menu. If the USB option is not there, I go to the set up and enable it (or change the boot order). However, in this case, I can't seem to enable the USB option for the boot menu.
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks

If you go into the BIOS, see if there is an exclusion list in the boot options, USB devices might be excluded by default.

Edit: seems to be yet another case of UEFI Secure Boot, you can disable it in the BIOS and USB boot should be possible.

Figured out the reason for this was that the usb drive wasn't formatted to be bootable......duh!

    Thanks for the help though
