Sounds like your dish needs re-aligning. Was it raining when the channels went?

bit of a recurring problem of late with ferguson boxs - do a channel list you can reload

No, fine clear evening. It's often been pissing down and blowing a gale and there hasn't been a problem. Signal strength and intensity usually up around 70-90%

Really? Didn't know other boxes had this problem.
How do you save and reload a channel list mate?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,854 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

its best to make a back up and reload it when needed i seen this happen in the 250 and 150 thread

I've downloaded the latest firmware and will install it this evening, see if that makes any difference.

I'd be interested to hear if it solves the problem, I know of at least one other box with what sounds like the same issue.

    Right, I think I know what's wrong.
I installed the update last week and rescanned. Everything was fine until I recorded Grays Anatomy for the missus tonight then most of the Sat channels disappeared. Then I remembered that the last time they all disappeared was this time last week, also when I recorded Grays Anatomy for the missus.
So either my box has an aversion to Grays Anatomy, which is understandable or perhaps it has an internal fault?

What device are you recording onto ? Maybe try a different one as a test ?

Hi lads, first post on Boards in a long time...
I followed this thread and managed to update my 252 to the patched firmware found on this thread, 100% working, no problems... I do however have one question, well 2 actually.

1: is it possible to add my own splash screen to the firmware at boot-up?

2: is it possible to remove the youporn link from the firmware alltogether or replace it with something else?

I did a bit of dumping and editing firmware from nokia phones years ago but these devices are all new to me so wonder if we still use hex editing progs or what would be used nowadays to edit firmware?

    thanks in advance

    Steven

does the youporn work ? you can lock it with a Pin code

the splash is added by the polish coder who packages the patched version, it would be possible but would be a lot of work

Eh, no, in fact I have yet to see any of those links work, but thats ok, I was just concerned if the kids were to click on it at some point and it did work.

Ah, I see, I as a newbie to these boxes, assumed there was some magic editor like the one for sorting the channel list that would allow the end user to change the splash screen... not to worry, both questions answered, Thank you.

Would anyone have an up to date channel list for the Ariva 252 combo with the latest firmware? The most recent I found on this thread was from Tony (post 16) but it's over a year old (other than some strange patched one posted recently?).

    Here,s one I'm working on , its needs food network added/changed 11426V and Tru tv 12552 v 22000 http://www.mediafire.com/download/l7xcsck2je86g2i/Ariva252_May1st2015.abs

As always if you see a binary mismatch message do not proceed

Sorry its not finished but ran out of 252's on Friday.

OK Tony I added the two transponders you mentioned and the new channels are added at the back end. Here's the file:
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/98z7fpjomk1llsv/Ariva252_May4th2015a.abs

I note the firmware in your file is the older one. I plan to update to the latest firmware per these instructions from an old thread. Any reason it migh't work?

-Open ariva editor and open your channel list.
-Go to file export and save it as a udf (user database).
    -Close arivaeditor and open again.
    -Open udf file.
-Then goto file export and save it over the new firmware abs file.
-This now has new firmware and your channel list.

Yes using slightly older firmware, sorry should have mentioned that. Some of the guys were reporting that there be a repetition of an earlier problem so I held off. Rather than use the editor you could just create a channel list .bin with the box itself and then save it over the new firmware as user database. That way you can check for any binary mismatch warnings.

    1. Yes (there are certain limits for image file size - max127k). I have replaced the bootlogos succesfully on the Fergusons before (but it has been a while). The files are called bootlogo.m2v and radiologo.m2v. The small windows program is called Ariva patchlogo will let you patch with the replacement m2v files (static or moving img files). So you would get the latest firmware file for your model box (abs) file from your box, rename it software.abs and use the patchlogo tool, then flash it back to your box by sticking it on a usb stick and using the allcode+bootloader option.

    Snap1.jpg

    2. FirmwareDecrypter/ ALI M3606 tool. You would have to know what you are doing after that.....

In laws have a 252 and for some reason irish tv at 11222, the new frequency keeps dropping off. I wonder would it be a misalignment on the dish? All other eurobird channels are fine

Would sound like a weak signal problem. You could always try adding a new TP on that Satellite position, say 11223 and scannning it, to rule out any software issue.

Try deleting the transponder and then doing a blind scan.

I've come across this recently (cant remember whether it was Irish TV or the Bonanza Bonanza one the in laws keep looking for) and one of the settings was out by a digit or two from that advertised. I think it was the SR figure that was different albeit very slight.

    Hi,
Looking for some help with my Ariva 252 combo. I’ve had the Irish & UK channels on the channel list & everything had been working fine until a couple of days ago. I read about adding the IrishTV channel via manual terrestrial scan. I did the scan, but nothing came up – I figured it may be weak signal.

However, I went back out of menu to return to watching tv & all of the Irish channels were gone – no signal!! The UK channels worked fine.

I tried an automatic terrestrial scan to get them back, but no luck. I also tried single satellite & multi satellite blind scan but no success.
Does anyone know what how I can get the terrestrial channels back? I’m not sure if when I did the manual scan to find IrishTV. Sorry if this is a novice question. Any advice would be appreciated.

Irish TV isn't on Saorview, so you're wasting your time looking for it with a terrestrial scan. It's available via satellite: to the best of my knowledge carried on the transponder with parameters 11222 MHz, H. polarity, symbol rate 27500.

Are the Irish channels still in the list, only showing 'no signal' when you try to watch? Did you look through the list for duplicates? (I don't know how the Arivas handle these, whether they keep those from the transmitter with the best signal & discard the rest, or not.)

Thanks for replying. The Irish channels were all showing as 'no signal'. I tried to reload without success. Then I deleted the 'no signal' channels and again tried to reload but no luck. Not sure what to do.

For satellite channels, it keeps the duplicates, not sure about terrestrials because hey won't reload!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,340 ✭✭✭✭Tony

If you go to the saorview website coverage checker and find out the correct channel/frequency for your area . Then under manual scan enter the information and check for signal and quality readings. This may show up a problem with your aerial .

The satellite duplicates are regional variations for different parts of the UK. Saorview has no regions, so duplicates are just picked up from different transmitters, if you happen to have a good enough signal from more than one. Saorview approved receivers will only keep the set with the best signal, not sure what the Ariva does.

Anyway, as mentioned already, if you have a 'no signal' display, there's almost certainly something amiss with your aerial setup. Could be as simple as aerial plug not pushed in properly at the receiver or wallplate.

I'm assuming all along that these are channels with names (RTE1, RTE2 etc.), & not the pile of no-name 'test channels', that show 'no service' as opposed to 'no signal'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,340 ✭✭✭✭Tony

The Ariva keeps all the terrestrial channels it receives.

    Thanks for the replies.

I plugged the aerial cable directly into the TV instead of the Ariva box. I did a search & it found the Saorview channels without problem. Also, the same aerial is connected to another TV in a different room and that has not lost its Saorview channels.

Could it be a problem with the Ariva box?

Hi, for terrestrial manual scan, the signal intensity is about 10% and quality is zero. I did this using the same transmitter channels as the TV in the other room, which is working fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,340 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Ok I'd suggest then bringing the box into the other room and checking the manual scan again as you know the aerial in that room is ok.

Just got a chance to look at this today as was away. Before I brought the box to the other room, I said I'd try the manual terrestrial scan where it was first & it worked! Happy days! Not sure why it didn't work when I tried the same thing last week.

    They've just changed frequency.

Just do a blind scan on Eurobird and it'll add the channels to your "All Satellites" list.
