... So I select CH30 on the antenna adjustment page and I have two problems - the first is that there's a loud tone coming from the TV and the second problem is that after having made this adjustment and selecting CH30, there's no way to save this setting? What am I missing?

The 'aerial adjustment' page is just to bring up a signal display/tone indication, & toggle power for an amplifier on/off.

It has nothing to do with scanning for channels, you do that in 'terrestrial manual scan', if you want to search on specific frequencies or, a 'terrestrial automatic scan' of the full band.

I'm not trying to scan for channels.

So what you're saying is that there's no adjustment possible on the aerial adjustment page and the page is purely there for you to flick through the various frequencies and see where you're getting your signal from?

Yeah, it just brings up a signal strength/quality display, as does the manual scan page, so it's a bit redundant apart from the on/off for the amplifier power.

What did you think it would do for you, maybe there's some other way to achieve whatever it is?

    Do this......

Press "menu" the button on the remote that looks like a house.
then go right till you see "installation" in the top left corner of your screen.
then scroll down to "Terrestrial Manual Scan"
    Select the following:
    1. Scan mode - "By Channel"
    2 Scan Band - UHF
    3 Channel No - Set to 30
Scroll to "Search" and press "OK"

You should pick up whatever services are on that Mux. When the search on Channel 30 is complete, return to Step 3 above and scroll to Channel 33 and repeat the search. (These are specific to your area based on your posts above)

Exit out of the menus altogether.

All your terrestrial channels should now be in your "DVB-T" menu. Press OK and < or > till you get to it.

AFAIK The idea of this is if you were physically adjusting the aerial. The tone helps you move the aerial to it's optimum if you can't see the screen at the same time.

    This answers my question.

I had been using automatic terrestrial scan and I thought the aerial adjustment was something to do with adjusting the terrestrial aerial I have attached to the box. Would the automatic scan I was doing not be taking a signal from my nearest transmitter anyway?
Also, for scanning Astra 2A, do I need to have anything specific set in the antenna set up page to get the best signal or is there any advantage to scanning Eurobird as well?

Would the automatic scan I was doing not be taking a signal from my nearest transmitter anyway? It should have! Are you sorted now?
Also, for scanning Astra 2A, do I need to have anything specific set in the antenna set up page to get the best signal or is there any advantage to scanning Eurobird as well? Forget about Astra 2A and just scan Eurobird. On these boxes sometimes there are certain channels that they don't seem to scan properly if you select Astra 2A. If you scan both you'll end up with two of each channel in your listings.

:) Eh, I advised you (at least twice) before that was posted, to use 'Terrestrial Manual Scan'.

Only way you can adjust your aerial is actual physical manipulation.

Auto scan will find all transmissions that are strong enough to be detected by the tuner, & I don't know what way the Ariva sorts them.

Saorview approved receivers will only store the set with the best signal, but the Ariva isn't approved.

Did a scan, although I don't have RTE1+1 for some reason. I'll do a reset and do 2 new scans doing Eurobird for the Satellite scan.

Originally, I thought I was meant to make some adjustment on the aerial adjustment page and I couldn't see how to do this so this is where I was stuck, and mentions of the manual scan page weren't registering with me - apologies and like I said - thanks for all the help. I don't know much about TV or satellite and was wondering what all the options on some of the screens on the ariva were for and also concerned that I mightn't be getting the best signal available as I thought a few times the picture wasn't as good as I was getting on the sky box.

Just need to figure out a system for sorting out this amount of channels now and I'll be sorted...:pac:

you only get rte1 +1 if you scan when its transmitting . a Blind scan on 28.2 picks up every channel aswell

the picture can be changed in the video format menu set it to 1080i 50mhz

widescreen should improve picture settings there will be some help in the videos
