Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maternity Entitlements as a Student

    Hi

I am a mature student and am planning to start a family in the next year or two. I'm just wondering whether any one can enlighten me as to what state benefits I might be entitled to? I worked part of last summer but have since used up my stamps so as far as I know would currently not be entitled to JSB. I am getting married soon and my husband to be is self-employed, so I am wondering whether this would affect my chances of getting maternity benefit from the State.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm finding it hard to get any info on this, but it's kind of important!

You can only get maternity benefit if you have been working in insurable employment within 16 weeks of your due date, and have a considerable amount of PRSI contributions in addition to this.

In theory, if you started working part-time now and worked till the end of the year, (there are 39 weeks left in 2013), I think you would be entitled to a reduced amount of maternity pay in 2015.
If you are employed you must have:

At least 39 weeks PRSI paid in the 12-month period before the first day of your maternity leave
