I live in the North Kerry area with an interest in taking up beekeeping. I am wondering is there any beekeepers in this area and if so would any of them take on a person like myself so as to learn the tricks of the trade?

You should, IMO, join a local beekeeping association. I joined ours over last Winter and learned loads on the introductory course and through the lectures I've attended.

Get native bees, not them Buckfast bees, or Fastbuck bees as they've become known.

Well I be interested in obtaining the Dark Honey bee for any hive I hope on getting for myself, not a fan of non-natives in general. Just wondering would there be an actual beekeeping courses in the Listowel or Tralee area?

There are a fair few associations in Kerry. I did an introductory course with my local association, I presume any decent associations in Kerry will provide same. You may be getting into the game a little late for this year. But contact them and see what they say. They should also do lectures and apiary visits during the year.

Probably the best beekeeping book out there:

I didn't understand a lot of it until I went on the course, then huge parts of it just fell into place for me.

The Kingdom Beekeeping Association which is based in Tralee is your nearest association. It is a very progressive association and you should find it meets your requirements.

I tried to send you the secretary's phone no. and email address, but incredible as it may seem; because I am a new user it is impossible for me to do so! I made repeated attempts using different formats. I can only suggest you google FIBKA and get the details there.

The Kingdom Association is listed here:
