Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I remember that game Martyn Williams played an absolute blinder only to miss the spot kick.

    I'm gonna say 36-12.

I think it's too much of an ask for Munster. They failed to get over the line against quinns, despite having all the possession, territory and line outson their side (as well as something like 95% breakdown success). They will be given nothing even approaching those opportunities against clermont, so Unfortunately I can see it being only penalties keeping the munster side of the scoreboard ticking over. I don't think that will be enough. Ckermont to get in behind a slow turning hurley/downey for a score or 2, with 1 or to more coming from some forwards grunting.

Yes, I think the shoot out now uses three players from each team taking two kicks each.

    17 - 18 , Munster.

Heart threatened to cut off supply to Head if he didn't comply, Head had no come-back.

    14 - 16 Munster

Coverted try (from a maul) and peno see Munster take a surprising early lead which they'll hold on to untill halftime. Clermont to come roaring back with 2 coverted tries in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Then Cudmore loses the rag after POM gets away with punching him in the town halls and lashes out at Murray, getting red carded. The Munster ship steadies, they tighten up and ROG knocks over 2 penalties in the last 10 minutes.

    {fanfare, exeunt}

I love the way most of the predictions are either 30 point thrashings by Clermont, or 2-3 point wins for Munster. The most brazen prediction yet is a 5 point win for Munster. :D Even the most wildly optimistic, are being a little realistic.

    Ah be realistic.

Paulie to carry 5 Clermont players over the line ala Ginger McLoughlin for an injury winner.

    23-19 to Munster.

Rougerie is out apparently, according to a French poster on PR.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Whilst he bleeds for Clermont, Stanley is a class player in his own right. If I was to take the Clermont aspect out of it, I'd probably rate a 28 year old Stanley more highly than a 32 year old Rougerie.

Rougerie is one of their talisman. If he's out its definitely a positive for Munster. 14 more injuries and we're in with a real shout.... :p

I agree he is a loss, but they can take hit better than we can in terms of injuries. I'm hoping James is fit, then someone should barge into Parra, then James becomes the goal kicker,,,,& on the way to the final.

Penney is going up in my estimation, hoping he can pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Regan King is the more likely replacement, no? Also a class act so Clermont won't lose much in playing ability but losing your captain so close to the game can't be good.

Edit: people know that the Rougerie injury is confirmed and he will not be playing, right?

I'd agree he's a loss. He's the spiritual leader of the side (and, given he's captain, the actual leader also, duh). However, he's getting a little bit older. He relies on reading the game these days more than his pure power and pace that he once had. Stanley is a very, very good player. Not quite top class but he'd walk into international sides in several other countries.

Losing Rougerie might weaken them in terms of pure drive and desire but not at all in terms of ability and class, for me.

It's definitely a good chance. Overall this season, Stanley has played more at 13 than King but you'd never know with Clermont. Both are very handy players. King is probably more of a natural 13 and Stanley a natural 12 but both have featured regularly in both positions this season.

I think we're all agreed that Munster will be much better off keeping their eyes on the man at 12 this weekend anyway!

A line from Franno's preview in the Herald today:
