Cool, I will try for the 3:15, just wondering with the huge numbers, could you be a good bit behind the pacer at the start?

Also, from anyone that has run it before, any general advice on pacing. I am hoping for 3:15ish, I usually run consistently at about 7:20 - 7:30 miles for long runs, should I expect the first 3-5 miles to be much slower than normal because of crowding? I don't mind the first 3 miles of my runs being a bit behind pace as I think you normally pick up a bit as you go. From experience, have people found their pace drop much for the last 5 miles? Any advice with regards to pacing would be really appreciated.

Really excited now, also very very nervous and anxious, scared crapless that the body just won't be up for it early on for whatever reason.

The first couple of miles are crowded and depending on your exact location and on which start you could find yourself behind a crowd of people going slower than you want. It is downhill for the first couple of miles as well though so that will keep people moving. It will get crowded again for you around 3 miles, as the courses merge, and then very crowded at 6 miles, at the Cutty Sark. They will only be very short hold ups though. Don't get too worried about it as it is only a couple of seconds delay, and then the road will be nice and wide for all of the rest of the way and people will start to thin out anyway the further into the race you get.

2 of 3 hour pacers are Irish lads. Woundedknee from these parts being one of them!

Similar, last couple of weekends were only 15 and 10 miles, and after been feeling good on previous long runs, them two felt tougher. From my experience doing a few other lesser runs and the gael force before, good rest int he week before should really sort the body out and have you ready. Whatever you do, don't go pushing it. I'm done now bar a 5k jog tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, just to keep the legs loose.

    Don't think I'm in 2012 form but a 2:38 would be a satisfactory result.

the fact your PB is 7 seconds faster than mine is a major annoyance :) Thought I'd let you know as I know it will make you happy

Was hoping to take a shot at breaking 2.55 but an injury curtailed final 3 weeks has thrown a spanner in the works. This will be a 'suck it and see' type of race!

Incidentally, for anyone like myself that's travelling up from the sticks to catch the 8.55 flight on Saturday bewleys Dublin airport hotel is €80 on Friday night including 4 days parking. Saves getting up at stupid o'clock!

Did london last year and it left a huge impression. Stayed in Black friars which was only 2 stops from Embankment/Charing Cross so it was very central. Plenty of restaurants/Italian on the road down the side of Charing Cross to Embankment. Got the train early from Charing Cross on the morning of the race (7:40ish) and although it was empty at the start if was fairly full when we pulled into Blackheath. Well stewarded from the station to the starting pens and big huge colour coded air ballons above each section made it impossible to get lost. Water/Tea at the starting pens and entertainment from the BBC on the big TV screens with music/DJs who helped pass away the minutes before the start. Huge crowds throughout the race but Tower Bridge was amazing and really had the hairs standing on the back of your neck running through a wall of noise and waving flags. Really nice finish to the race all along Embankment as the crowds are lined up on both sides. Once I finished and had the medal placed around my neck Richard Branson was in the finishing chute shaking hands with all of us as we exited. Another nice touch. Photo opportunities available as I made my way to the baggage change area which is as you would expect...well signposted and hassle free. Charing Cross station was only a few mins walk/shuffle from the finish. People on my way into the tube and while on the train were clapping and offering congratulations. Really left a lasting impression. The Coal Hole didn't have Sky Sports and we met a couple who wanted to watch the football so we got coverage across the road in a Canadian Bar.
Best of luck to all running this year... London really is an amazing experience.

Don't loose the focus at this late stage, remember what you've done all the training for. It's about the beer, not a bunch of foreigners kicking a ball about up north somewhere.
