Fantastic ep I thought. Ridiculously far-fetched I know but this is a television show after all. Best part was Brody losing it at Carrie in the car when he saw Dana; "you f#####g bitch!":D
Lots of interesting sub-plots going on as well; Saul's missus and her lover, Carrie's bun in the oven (not that she seems too bothered about it).
Brody's cold turkey scenes were class I thought (stabbing himself with the leg of that chair; yeurgh).
It seems certain Brody will not make it back from Tehran; his redemption for his sins will have a high price methinks.
The only bad part in it was that they couldn't get through an ep without an appearance from Dana.

    ^^^

Great ep I thought so too, the writers keep on surprising me while managing to maintain the integrety of the narrative, very good stuff

Trainspotting and French Connection for Brody. Thought the reunion stuff with Carrie was pretty well done without lapsing into sentiment. The later scene with Dana was fairly devastating, really. Saul's Brody-Iran plan is of course insane even in the context of this show. The mission prep montage was fun if a little short. Even if they pull it off I don't follow how they think the installation of Jivadi will lead to peace - surely the first thing the Iranians will do is suspect the Americans? Though perhaps peace is not the real motive. Glad the Saul's wife's lover thing was closed off (hopefully) as I don't think that aspect needs any more screen time. Glad to see Virgil and Max again.

'Are you about done with your thought process?' That's my Saul!

Great episode with Damien Lewis and Claire Danes angling for more Emmys. Everyone played a blinder in this one, especially Mandy Patinkin. A couple of weeks ago I was thinking that the show wasn't really missing Brody, but his return has certainly kicked things up a couple of notches. I for one like the character of Dana (and the actress who plays the part) and that scene in the Motel room was very powerful and judged perfectly.

Only Carrie would take up smoking after she becomes pregnant. :pac:

;) Yes --- silly girl. Anyone notice the bags under her eyes and her general tired look ( allowing for recent stress ) - being 13 weeks pregnant she should look radiant.

The stress of carrying the baby of The Most Wanted Fugitive In America is taking it's toll.

13 weeks (15 by the end of last night's episode) - Is it only 3/4 months since the Langley bombing? It seems that Brody has been in Venuzuela for ages and it took him some time to get there from Canada.

Episode 1 of this season said it was 56 days since the bombing and I think all of this season so far seems to have only been a couple of weeks so that'd be about right.

was Carrie in the psychiatric unit for 1 month?
any chance it's not Brodys, could it be from the night she spent with the lad she bumped into in the Liqour store?

Well she's 13 weeks along so unlikely.

Don't understand the love for that episode.

The most wanted man in America is left alone in an unguarded room to do cold turkey with objects around that can cause damage.

Throwing Brody in the water in the dark was a very strange scene. He could have swam off in any direction and they just kept looking at the one spot.

Carrie and her smoking, why did the writers have to do that?

Turn around of Brody with the running music reminded me of Rocky and I was expecting him to shout "I love you Adriaaaaaaaan" at the end of the scene.

It was watchable but I would not give it the high praise it seems to be getting.

When she was in front of the judge trying to get released from the hospital (ep 4) and had that torpedoed with the document from the justice dept. they said it was just over a month since she was ready to spill secrets to the reporter. That would put them at about 12 weeks since the bombing when she gets out and meets the lawyer for the first time then things seem to move pretty quickly so while the timelines are very tight its most likely Brodys.

There just isnt enough montages on tv shows these days. It was cheesy as hell but I loved it :P

Err, it was guarded, hence when he tried to hurt himself it was stopped.

Like when he tried to run 10 paces and collapsed?

No, when he was stabbing himself with a chair leg Saul had to run in himself and stop him.
I think in reality he'd have been in an empty padded cell.

Thought that latest episode was awful. I'd have to agree with Murpho above with pretty much everything said.

Saul's plan is stupid. Unless what he told Carrie isn't really his intentions.

Brody's visit to Dana! Does he not realise he has another child too, did he even give a thought to his son?

Brody, America's Most Wanted Man, now on a secret mission, being out and about where anybody could see him - twice to the motel, and then all around the navy base. Seems like a lot of people have been let in on it, which seems dangerous and then being let run around the place where any cook or gardener might see him seemed ridiculous.

    Carrie smoking!

The whole Mira / Alain / Lockhart is all just too implausible for words.

Brody's Rocky-esque fitness routine. Could he really go from unable to take ten steps to running with ease in 16 days?

I didn't realise I was watching a documentary. It's a entertainment tv series.... it's not real life... that would be boring. Not sure if ye pick through the plausibility of every show you watch... if so, well you are kind of missing the point.

Agreed - Jack Baur went through 8 seasons of 24 in "real time" without a meal or toilet break or charging his mobile.

I thought it was a good episode, not as good as last week, but sets up the final 3 episodes nicely !!!

Gonna be cool seeing Brody in Iran.

Of course it's not real life and some things are done for dramatic effect but I do like shows to keep some sense of realism and the idea of Brodie doing cold turkey and turning around to a superfit, drugfree soldier within a few days is just silly.

Also, I'm still scratching my head with the Carrie smoking scene. It seems Hollywood/Tv is obsessed with cigarettes.

No, it was 16 days later.

Of course it's not a documentary and I've enjoyed plenty of far out shows like Lost and Spartacus before. And I've enjoyed Homeland up to this point too, it just seemed like this episode was a little too much to believe. I realise I'm in the minority for not liking one episode, but neither am I completely alone in the opinion.

But sure that's what a forum is about - to discuss different opinions. And I'm not going to stop watching it or anything, at least to the end of this series.

Right because ONE cigarette will do far more to cause a miscarriage than all those heavy duty pharmaceuticals she was on.

No it's the whole concept of an adult woman taking up smoking after getting pregnant.
Also the scene added nothing to the story and I just fund that smoking gets too much showing in TV/ films.

I actually prefer when programs do this. It adds to sense that something is going on but you are not quite able to follow it. If only you could understand what they are saying then maybe you could be a step ahead..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,890 ✭✭✭tomdempsey200

I didn't think it was great

    5/10

Brody should have been dropped ages ago and the show move on to some new plotline

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,082 ✭✭✭lukin

I enjoyed it. Predictable that Brody's buddy would get taken out; there's no way that he would be able to explain his story or hold out under interrogation. Jahvadi actually did Brody a favour in a way.

I think the on the spot execution was a signal that our Iranian friend gets the message that Brody is a plant. Jarhead Brody will figure it out when its explained to him in cartoon form. Saul will clock it immediately. Carrie will weep and write teenage poetry or something. The whole infiltration-of-Iran business is a hot potato so I can see Saul being left in charge for a little longer while the Senator / next CIA boss goes on a fact finding trip to the Bahamas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

Yeah his escort would have endured far greater punishment and would have ultimately blown Brody's cover, it was the only way out for the guy!

Never expected the IED though when they were driving!

I gave up on this around 7 weeks ago but a couple of mates told me it got much better directly after I stopped watching. I've given it another chance and have been gradually been catching up, finally getting on top of things with the latest episode tonight. Safe to say I needed a new pair of underpants after the mine blew up under the car :pac:

In fairness, it has got a lot better. I'm enjoying it. It seems like a completely different show from the first half of the series to the second half.

A couple of things I need cleared up though that I have found a bit confusing. Probably pretty obvious things but that I have missed out when rushing through:

Javadi is working for the CIA, as is Brody. Is Javadi oblivious that Brody has been recruited by the CIA or are they both in on this together?

Secondly, who is Brody actually trying to assassinate and is the goal of this whole operation for Javadi to take the person who has been assassinated's role, thus giving the CIA access to the top of the terrorism ladder through Javadi?

    Thanks.

..and Javadi, while not in on the specifics of the plot is probably filling in the blanks quickly enough (he's as smart as Saul but does his own wet work). Thus the snap execution and a quick limo ride to Tehran for Brody. Thats my guess for the next episode or two anyway.

And then a guest appearance by Ben Affleck as he is given the job of exfiltrating Brody from Tehran back to the US.:)

Given up on this but I did see the episode they're referring to in this article. I speak Spanish and there was nothing much important said really (at least that I can remember). That, to me, seems even stranger though since it doesn't really add to the mystery if they're leaving out subtitles on mundane stuff. Unless some possible spoiler was in the Iranian but I highly doubt it.

I remember Breaking Bad had quite a few scenes in either season 3 or 4 without subtitles which I found pretty infuriating (my Spanish wasn't at the same level it is now) and they added them in for the DVD release. I find it really strange the didn't put them in the first place, it's a fairly basic thing.

If they're not there it's been done deliberately: either it's something mundane, it should be more or less obvious from the context and their body language etc. what they are saying, or they are speaking in front of someone who doesn't understand the language and so the subtitles are left off so the viewer feels the same way.
