Nothing too noteworthy in Galway, just breezy with moderate gusts, driving rain is making for poor conditions but the wind isn't all that strong

very bad here in east cork. Electricity went down around 7:30 and just came back up there. Trees being unrooted here also

West Cork getting a hammering too. I'm near Dunmanway. Parts of our fence have blown down. It's so bad, small pebbles of gravel are blowing off the drive and hitting our glass patio door!! That's a new one on me.

Flights (to Dublin) looking like they're getting diverted... flight from Birmingham made it almost all the way across the Irish Sea and is now heading back towards Liverpool, another on its way to Shannon.

looks like there will be a good few diversions in the next hour or two. Already a few gone to shannon.

Conditions outside are utterly foul and I'm not in the least bit surprised that flights are being diverted. Wind sheer would be lethal....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 693 ✭✭✭eastmayo

Ya looks like shannon will be busy.flights from cork going to shannon as well.

EIN179 just flew over the Airport, thought it was going in for a landing but has past it, wonder where it is off to!

He's at 20,000 feet so he has no intentions of landing at EIDW. My guess would be that due to the traffic on its way to shannon he'll bank left shortly and head to EINN, Even though recent reports show gusts of 50kts at shannon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Looks like EIN179 has a preference for Belfast over Shannon!

Around 6 planes now circling in the Irish sea awaiting instructions.

Looking at FR24, EIN65T looks like he's diverting to aldergrove, also looks like 179 is on his way to aldergrove also.

Looking at DAA arrivals site, the last confirmed landing was 90 mins ago

Very windy in Cork also. My sky is not liking it. Was out in car and blown around a lot - few trees down

I was supposed to land in Dublin airport an hour ago... We circled for ages and have just landed in Shannon. Apparently Fublin and Cork airports are closed

In Balbriggan and the gusts are amazing. Our house is timber framed and the amount of creaking coming from the roof/walls is quite unreal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 477 ✭✭blackbird99

1 plane landed, they seemed to have up waiting to land in dublin, remaining flights heading for prestwick as shannon and aldergrove are now full

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 maulikdesai1

Ahh the winds are deadly here in dublin 1, just near I.F.S.C.. Banging on the windows.

Wife was on EI179 - said it was horrible. No notice in airport of the diversion that they had - they have ended up in Glasgow - Cork and Shannon too windy, Belfast is closed for runway maintenance so the only option was Glasgow - there for the night and back in the morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

2 missed approaches as Dublin Airport, say they might shut up shop for the evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

you listening to dublin airport on scanners or via internet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,490 ✭✭✭Jpmarn

I see some Dublin bound flights heading cross channel to land there. Shannon was able to take diversions during the high winds due that it's runway runs from south west to north east. Crosswinds is not an issue there.

The gust seem to be picking up again here in Cork City they were a little gentler for a time.

Unless I'm mistaken, the wind seems to have tapered off just a little in the past while. They might make a run or two each and head to their alternate if there's no joy

Edit: looks like the BA one is going to give it a go....

Strongest winds where I am in Co. Waterford for a few yrs. Electricity gone for a couple of hrs and some tiles off the roof. Anyone know a good roof repairer ?
