KEREIGHT JOINS CURTIN – AIMS FOR ENGLISH DERBY

    17/04/2013

Kereight King, one of Ireland’s star trackers, has been the subject of a substantial deal and is now being handled by Pat Curtin.
Curtin, who recently moved to a splendid new training complex in Enniskerry, has organised a syndicate of four members and they have negotiated the purchase of a half share in the dog with owner/ trainer Aidan Denton.
One of the members of the Syndicate is none other than Tony (AP) McCoy, one of the greatest jockeys the National Hunt world has ever seen. He was previously a shareholder in Shelbourne Geoff with Curtin and he reached the quarter final of last year’s Derby. The other members are Curtin himself and Galwaymen Gerry Hughes and Jonathan Newell.
The William Hill English Derby is the prime target for the dog which is the second fastest ever over Shelbourne’s 525 yards with a 27.82 run. His style of racing would appear to be tailor made for Wimbledon and he is likely to end up one of the ante-post favourites. Reports suggest that some nice bets have already been struck at 33-1 and 40-1.
Curtin plans to have his tonsils removed this week and a quick break will be followed by a few trials around Limerick and then a sprint and 480 around Wimbledon in advance of the classic.
In the deal, Curtin also bought a younger half brother to Kereight King from Galbally, Co. Wexford based Denton.
Incidentally, Pat Curtin plans to base the dogs in England this time, rather than travelling back and forth and he hopes to have up to three other challengers for the classic.
