Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My wife is a non eu citizen. She was here a year while her permission to remain application was being processed and was not allowed to work. She now has a work permit but after 15 months of trying we found out today that she is pregnant - Phew!

As far as i can make out that as i earn 540 per week 420 after deductions she would not receive JSA or JSB and to be honest i would rather not rely on state funds anyway. As she has no prsi contributions she would not receive Maternity Benefit. Is there anything out there to support us or help out until we are in a position where she can work.

As far as i can make out if i was unemployed we would be better off as a couple. Shame really.

She wont qualify for maternity benefit or jobseekers benefit as they are contribution based. If she is available and looking for full time work she should apply for jobseekers allowance...this is means tested. Just taking your gross earnings she would receive something in the region of €24 pw (this will probably be a little more as prsi and union dues are deducted from gross for means testing). She will also have to satisfy habitual residence.

Yes i worked it out roughly as that too. Crazy that i'd be nearly better off being unemployed as we would get so many more extra's but it is what it is and we will battle through and manage. I don't see the point of applying for €24 pw. I'm sure we would qualify for FIS anyway but wonder if supplementrt welfare can be applied for for say 10 -12 weeks as she has a job lined up for after our baby's birth. Thanks and i really appreciated the response

You cannot qualify for FIS unless you have child/children. Supplementary welfare allowance is unlikely to be paid unless your spouse had a pending jsa claim. Means testing for swa is different to jsa.
