Just seen a Sega Rally upright and Point blank 2(colours looked off) in apple green at Enfield.
Which got me thinking, I wonder how many cabs/pins are actually still in use in Ireland. Where/What else have you seen out there?

Those sit down electrocoins are quality.
They used to be in every bowling alley in Dublin.
Where have they all gone...some one must have a stash of them

They're the exact cabs I used to play Puzzle Bobble and Metal Slug 1&3 on. They haven't been on floor in years. I reckon they brought them out of storage for the BYOB nights.

Im in youghal at the moment and they have a sega rally and a bunch of other two seater racers. ****e pool table ate the white ball off the break though!
They have a mushroom that has a little cab for kids inside it also.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,392 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

There are a few cabs in Skerries, Operation Thunderbolt, after burner, twin sega rally sitdown and one or two others.

Also in TGIs in Blanch there is a Batman Pinball table, there was a Tron one in the cinema in liffey valley but that's gone now.

Was the after burner a sit down?

Was in bray bowl last night. The Xenon was running SF2. Duets had Tekken (not sure which one) and Metal Slug 3. Was great playing Mslug 3 as it was the exact mobo and cart I played growing up! Monitor was a bit banjaxed though. Lots of pincushioning, dark and colours were murky.

I'd love to get that mobo and cart from them.

Found this Ridge Racer machine in Shannon Airport about a month ago. I may have been quite happy about it. They also had a Virtua Cop (number 3, I think) and a Sega racer called Scud Racer. Feckin' pound per credit though!

Wow! Amazing seeing a stand up Ridge Racer still on site somewhere. I thought they'd all be long gone at this point.

A quid a go is crazy. They'd probably make more money in the long run if it was 50c.

Possibly. I was just stunned that the place had a tiny little arcade corner! I would have blown all my cash there if I had of had enough time.
Also, there are a few machines in Funstastia in Drogheda. Nothing old, but they've got After Burner: Climax and 18 Wheeler, which are always worth a go... again a pound a pop though.

Kinda cool seeing the Ridge Racer cab in the wild, knowing I own one! Also cool seeing another one of its ilk, as I never seen them in the wild back in the days of yonder

From memory ( cos I went there in the early nineties) .. in the mini arcade room off at the side of the snackery there was ..pacland . Pang. A dodgy hk street fighter II bootleg (rainbow? ) a 1000 miles rally..and I think there was a lethal enforcers and a black tiger. Out in the snackery there was a mk cab and ...I think a f1 twin...
    Good times:)

Scud Racer is the best arcade racer of all time. That precise machine has been in various places in Clare since the 90's and there's always something broken on it.

They've got a GTI Club (original) in the main lobby after security. Think there might be an upright Sega Rally upstairs as well but I don't know if it's still there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

There was an upright 18 Wheeler in Shannon airport too, upstairs by the canteen. It wasn't there the last time I was there though, so maybe moved somewhere else or gone completely?

Fun World in Limerick (Ennis Road, next to Supermac's) still had Virtua Tennis, a large sit-down 18 Wheeler (rear projector screen), Time Crisis 2 and a few other semi-classics. Looking quite run-down these days...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,221 ✭✭✭RichyX

Cork airport had a stand up Sega Touring Car Championship cab just inside the terminal a few years ago.
They had another machine too, possibly Sega Rally 1 or 2, can't remember.

Hardly seems worth listing what Century City has.

What happens to all of the old arcade machines? Given that most of the arcades in this country are just full of slot machines now, did they sell their old games or (worst fear) did they dump them? I used to spend a fortune in Atari Expo in the square playing Sega Rally, House Of The Dead, Point Blank etc, but my favourite one was tucked away in the corner and nobody else seemed to give it a second look. It was called Vapor TRX, anyone remember it? It was a Wipeout type futuristic hover racer with weapons, but rather than random weapons to pick up each racer had it's own weapon and you picked up upgrades.

Yeah first hand from talking to people, when they arnt making money anymore they get shipped off.

A fella I know was telling me about a pinball machine he broke up for dumping...All he said was it was really old and had a rotary scoreboard

I almost bled from my eye

I'm sure you'll do the same with your Egret II when you don't need it anymore, right?

Pick Axe straight through the monitor? :pac:

o1s1n, its that pic real? If so I have to say it makes me kind of sad, genuinely. Those machines are really more than machines if you know what I mean.

I know a few European and US resellers of candy cabs get some of their stock (candies and parts)from the dumping areas in Asia. Or at least that's what I've been told over a few drinks while in Japan during the years I've been going over there looking for retro gold.

    Yeah I've heard that aswell

They'd go in and get the best of whats there and fill up a container and shi it off. Sure the ammount of cabs in Japan and the likes is beyond our comprehension over here really isnt it

    1. Go to Japan
    2. Go to a dump
    3?
    4. Profit!!!

If that had been Dr Crusher in the background he'd have manned up, in case there was a chance of getting jiggy with it later.
Seeing as it was the old crone Pulaski, he might as well let it out.

Check out this arcade graveyard. Look at all those pins, they're stacked like coffins!

    http://www.invaded.fr/2009/02/26/roadtrip-nouvelle-caverne-dali-baba/

    Edit - probably best not to run a translation on that page, you'll end up reading things like this;

During the first roadtrip, the seller had cleared one of several pinball warehouse for burn .... and after discussion had finally decided to wait a bit. So, it's pinball Stocka outside his home not far from the ground, so we present ...

It's really an amazing find. I was reading through some of it and it looks to be over several warehouses. Even one of the warehouses was disguised behind a load of undergrowth.

It was back in 2009 - so they've all either been rehomed or burned by now I'd say :D

Why burn them? Surely these people should realise there is no such thing as trash as someone somehwere will always nearly find a use for it.

I was in Waterford the weekend with the wife, we went down to Tramore on Saturday to see if i could spot any Arcade machines. No such luck, its full of Slot Machines, Pokers, and Fancy Modern Gizzery Doos. Only think I spotted was what look like House of the Dead 2 and Point Blank 2 through a window of a closed off Arcade. Other than that closest i came where these two which arent exactly old...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭Shapey Fiend

I was in Tramore a couple of years ago and they still had loads of good stuff. Crisis Zone was the highlight I must have spent 15 euro on it. There are about 5 arcades there (and a couple of them are beautiful buildings) but they're probably mostly closed at this time of year.

They where all open dude, i was in about 5 of them up that stretch of road off the beach, but they had nothing except the modern games and a LOAD of gambling machines. One part of one arcade was closed, but i could see everything in it including the House of the dead and point blank. there was nothing else there. Spotted a Terminator Salvation game, those outruns, one or two other driving games that was about it. Hundreds of slot machines though!
