Bummer. There were 5 or 6 pinballs there as well but most of them were pretty broken. It's a shame to see slot machines take over but Irish people of all ages seem to have no interest in even modern arcade games anymore. The ones in Dr Quirkies are rarely in use and that's the best location you could ask for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Yeah Tramore isnt anything what it used to be

Freddies, which had a CSI and Simpsons pilball and house of the dead and few other great machines is closed down

The Atlantic is the arcade Keith is talking about, they close half of it off this time of year and its the half with all the games :(

They used to have a Theatre of magic I'd frequent but its been gone a few months now, I tried to ask about it but I got nowhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,147 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

Played those Outruns 3years ago down there, likewise there was no old games, didnt even spot that Theatre of magic of i'd have had a go.
That spinning wall across the road in the carnival is pure evil, I thought I was going to die on the bloody thing!

I'd be jumping straight into that outrun2 cab.
I've only ever played the outrun 1 full sitdown version before in Dublin airport when I was too young to remember the joys.

I had a go of one in stillorgan bowl around a year ago but it wasn't the full hydraulic sit down version.
Sega knew how to make cabs in the day.Pioneers

The Bowling place there beside the UCI in Coolock, sorry the Odeon in Coolock, has a 4 player Pacman CE machine, I was surprised that a dingy kip like that would have a thing of beauty in it's midst, like finding a Constable hanging on the wall of your local chipper, next to an ad for Italian kebabs.

They have a Metalica pinball in Dr. Quirkies at the moment and it's working perfectly (for now). It's a great table as well I've pumped 20 or 30 euro into it on the couple of occasions I've been there lately.

Took a trip out to Skerries and Rush today with the kid, Skerries seems to have added a few older games back into its arcade from when i was there last year. A lot better than the rubbish out in Bray anyways. They also have this Nazi style kids plane ride, a helicopter and Knightrider car im pretty sure i used to get on as a kid over 30 years ago.

    20140716_144017.jpg

    20140716_143642.jpg

First Cab i spotted from the door when i walked in, an upright Outrun! Working!

    20140716_142551.jpg

Next up "The Invaders" it was clearly a different car game before hand with an artwork kit applied and a new board put in.

    20140716_142603.jpg

Next Operation Thunderbolt, this was here last year too, had a couple of goes with the kids, must not get much play as i got to the 4th level on one go and got the top score.

    20140716_142630.jpg

Generic cab beside it, silverline i think? The marquee was just a mirror. forget which game was on it now.. I spotted another one of these style cabs out the back room by the toilets non working.. well i assume it wasn't working.

    20140716_142640.jpg

    After Burner!!

    20140716_142644.jpg

    And a soccer game..

    20140716_142651.jpg

Spotted this then, 400 Miles.. looks like some weird back-lit style cab, it wasn't switched on though i don't think..

    20140716_143621.jpg

    Next, Punch out!

    20140716_144155.jpg

Finally Point Blank in serious need of repair and the guns where filthy..

    20140716_144201.jpg

There was a load of cabs out the back beside the toilets piled into a room, most where naruto pokers, but i did spot a galaga cab, one of those silverlines pictured above and some white konami racer as i pretended to be looking for the toilets.

Anyways.. decent few games if you are out that way.

    That's quality.
Great to see outrun, after burner and punchout cabs still out there.
It's sad to say but that's the best arcade I've seen in Ireland in many a year.
Those afterburner and outrun cabs look in top notch condition surprisingly.

Outrun wasn't great to be honest, the plastic was all melted from smokes and the pedals where rusty.

I think I might try and make it up to Skerries for the first time next year for the bike races and visit that arcade also.

Hopefully those cabs will still be intact by then.

I've always wanted to go to the races in Skerries so I think I should just do it!

I'd have had to speak to the manager & asked about buying that Outrun cab. It might need some tlc, but it's Outrun! :o

    Haha really?
They seemed fairly sound, that room is unused!
They've a pool table and a couple air hockey tables too

I was in oakwood yesterday and they have an arcade, sorry no pics, my phone was dead

Only a handful of games, that new Batman driving game, a sega rally and a DDR machine. Everthing else is slots and pennys falls and boxing machines. Very disapointing!

Funny story though, I was doing single player on DDR, which is a game I usually play whenever I see it so I'm ok at it, and some random girl asks to dance with me on it. Now I know what ye are all thinking, did old jack make the move?

Well I certainly did, put the game up to the next difficulty starting laying down 250+ combos, She never had a chance.

How much do you reckon they'd want for that Crazy Taxi standup if they were to sell it? Is there a going rate at all?

I doubt I'd have the room but I can dream...

Ask about the candy too... Don't know if I'd have the money/space, but it looks about as small as they get, footprint wise!

I was in Oakwood back in like 2001 and then again in 2008-2009ish

If you've never been there before its worth a trip, 60 quid on the ferry with bus transfer and entrance to the park included. But in honesty its a bit run down at this stage, the food is crap and the staff are useless. The rides are still fun though, even if a good few of the main ones were closed due to wet weather when I was there, I was on them before so I didnt mind.

I was out running in Tramore Sunday morning and all myself!

Sorry there was no pins in that arcade for you to play :P

The Sega Title fight is pretty cool though, except i feel like my hands are rotting off after playing it. If I opened an arcade, alcohol hand gel everywhere!
