best free video editor?

Hi folks,

just looking for your opinions as to what would be the best free video editors available for Windows XP?
Indeed, I have tried many and they either don't support all files, are trial versions (meaning that not all features are available/text goes accross the edited video i.e "this is a non activated version") or are just highly unfunctional.
It's becoming a real head scratcher so I was wondering what works best for you guys. AVS is a good one but unless you have the full version, unwanted text appears on the video. Same for NHS.

Windows Movie Maker

Lightworks is the best free editing software. It has a feature list that competes with AViD and all the other top editing apps that cost several hundred. Windows Movie Maker is very simple to use, but terrible for anything more than amateur work. Lightworks is kept up to date with all the latest camera codecs and latest 4k resolutions, and designed to work with most workflows.

+1 Just got a new Windows 8 laptop, Windows Movie Maker is not as good as the version I had with Vista. It crashed multiple times as well, was a real pain.

Might attempt to progress to this Lightworks so!

i didnt realise there was so many. is the quality the same on all of them?
