Vote with your feet folks. It's a pain in the arse, but these asshats don't listen to feedback or complaints, the only thing that'll catch their attention is customers leaving. They don't care about consumers any more, so businesses are the only ones that can hurt them.

glad to see I'm not the only one driven to insanity by this incredible piece of s*t. they way BOI have dealt with me professionally means I will always in future try to avoid them as a personal customer. clowns.

Ok I have solution for Online business banking from BOI if it's not working for you after windows updates or if you have windows 7 or 8 you should use avant browser. It wants to update java when you open the website first but you can skip that and it will work no problem - it's fully tested.

Sure but why is anyone still using this rubbish?

I can only speak for myself but as a company director I have a responsibility to maximise shareholder value/profits etc. Arguably it would be in breach of my duties to stay with BOI business banking, because of their archaic online system and extortionate fees. Luckily I also own all the shares so I can choose not to press charges against myself.

Closing down the BoI business account was also REALLY DIFFICULT as you can imagine... But sooo worth it in the end!

Does it work on non Windows (say MacOS) platforms? By it I mean BoI business banking under avant, not avant itself

As far as I know Avant is Windows only browser, it might be worth checking any other niche browsers for mac that aren't build on the webkit or gecko engine.

To be honest I'd be long gone from BOI if I could, we have a direct debit facility with them to collect customer debts and have found it impossible to get the same facility from other banks.

Their new sepa payments system is a step in the right direction though

I went to them because I was utterly hacked off with AIB. Too many reasons to go into. My business is very small - in terms of transactions only about 5-6 per month. Really I could survive with a check book and monthly statements.

The offering is complete overkill for me and extremely hard to use. The insistence on an old IE/Windows platform just drives me insane. I'm damned if I'm going to keep a m/c going just for their ridiculous requirements.

Anyway, I'm going to leave them and let them know that the online system is the reason. I'll just set up another 'personal' account with PTSB and use that as the company account.

With the volume of business that you are doing, nobody is going to care and that is the sad reality. If you only need a monthly statement and a simple account you can go anywhere. Ulster Bank online system is very easy to use and I am sure there are others such as PTSB, pick the one with the nearest branch!

If he says it's for a business they will insist on a business account is the problem. Officially they won't let you use a personal account for a limited company, even when the number of transactions etc is very low.

Unofficially a little birdy told me that bank managers can be flexible about this, and if you just don't say anything it will be fine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 yanogore

If it's small company with few transactions every month I really doubt its ltd. and as or sole trader I think you can use even your own personal account but it can be messy.

However because of my finding about avant browser no windows user need to change their bank in order to use online banking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,157 ✭✭✭srsly78

And what about the e500/year fees? Using a different browser is not gonna help with that :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 yanogore

Well it's not about 500 euro I thought, I thought it's about that the internet banking isn't working. 500 isn't motivating to stay with a bank for sure, especially that you probably have some money in the account and really bank is using it so actually you are lending that money to bank so in exchange they should offer free reliable service. This however isn't as ridiculous as the nespresso capsules (being sold in two outlets in whole country while machines can be bought in any electrical store) or the way NAMA works (paying our money - huge money - to bankrupts to 'manage' properties of other bankrupts) - those are one of the Only in Ireland.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,157 ✭✭✭srsly78

When you add up all the various fees they hit you with it can easily get to e500/year. They give you a free fees period to sucker you in, then they clobber you. This isn't for specialised merchant facilities either, this is all for bog standard stuff you would expect to get for free with personal account.

Did you know there is an extra fee (e5/month?) if you want to be able to check your company credit card statement online?

Heheh funny you mention Nespresso. I was blowing loads of money on that with my company, but in these times of austerity have switched to beans+grinder+e50 machine off amazon :D

Put it like this: switching away from BoI saves me enough money in 1 year to cover the companies coffee budget for 3 years!

Business On Line is an absolute pain in the hole!

I've been trying to make a transfer from one account to another for the last hour or so. System won't let me change my digital cert, it just hangs there for ages.

    It is so incredibly archaic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 yanogore

Amazing how they managed to waste billions of euro and couldn't find couple of grand to get new business website.

  • Registered Users Posts: 174 ✭✭Daveq

I'm delighted I found this thread, I thought it was only me who hated BOI BOL!! It has to be the worst internet banking system around.

I know people are saying switch from them but since the last post was written, Ulster Bank have had their fair share of problems which would not have me changing to them either.

    What problems have Ulster had?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,091 ✭✭✭Peterdalkey

A short down last week and a day and half down about 2 weeks ago. They have(RBS) admitted public ally to major under investment in IT systems and resources. They are still better than BoI which puts both of them in content. If it worked all the time, the UB offering is actually very good, in fairness to them.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭rovoagho

Thanks. Probably just another step on their branch exit plan.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,054 ✭✭✭✭neris

Was told by a boi manager that they had failed over years (incl celtic tiger years) to put money into updating i.t systems and its now having an effect on internal bank systems but doesnt bother senior management as the staff can still do work just takes longer, seems its finally affecting customers.

Seperately i have no doubt rbs are looking to exit ireland and are living in hope that some sucker will take ulster bank off their hands, my money been on kbc to take them over in some guise probably their retail and personal banking section

All our banks seem to be guilty of underinvestment in IT systems and now we, the customers, are seeing the results. What chances bonuses could be linked to IT uptime?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭rovoagho

    Zero

I hope this isn't considered a zombie thread. Found after discovering the news in the last couple of days that the US Homeland Security recommend no one uses IE anymore because of some serious bugs arising out of stopping support for XP, but the bugs could effect any Microsoft OS.

I'm not in the decision making position in my workplace so cannot vote with my feet and move bank...I have to work with this piece of cr*p. I manage ok on a day to day basis but any time I am required to log into the Admin section of the site, I end up ringing their tech support, even though I am technically competent. It's a complete shabbles and a very disappointing user experience. I'm going to get on to them today about this new issue.

ETA: I have just downloaded the Avant browser and BOI Business online does actually work in it!!

Isn't Avant based on IE? It certainly used to be.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 6,652 Mod ✭✭✭✭pinkypinky

Yeah, unfortunately, you are right. My IE updated to 11 automatically and then Avant did an update both had the same homepage afterwards.

Anyone have a problem at the moment where the digital cert screen doesn't load properly when approving a payment. It pops up but doesn't load. Java is up to date.
