    Hi guys,

This is probably going to be a really simple question but googling has yielded no helpful results.

My housemate has acquired a (approx) 40 year old record player and it's more or less ready to rock apart from it needs a plug.

Now, the earth is easily identified but the live and neutral are both brown! And stuck together. Is there any way to tell the difference, or does it matter?

    Does anyone have any ideas?

It'll work either way but if you take it apart you can check for fusing or switching which should be on the live.

    Can't see pic btw

Thanks for the advice! Sorry to be a total wire n00b but how would one check for fusing/switching?

    Also, hopefully this one works.

It looks like it could be for an old two pin plug with a seperate ground wire. I have a record player like that, little loop on the earth wire so it can be attached to an earth screw on an other device.
It also looks like there is a white strip running down the side of one of the wires which would signify that it is live. As long as there is not one on both wires ;)
If there are no labels on the back saying it should be run at a different voltage than 220-240v, it should work.
