Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

DUP and Cross-Border Bridge initiative

Northern Ireland could be left with a multimillion-pound bill for the failure to implement the project for a new cross-border bridge. If the bridge is not completed on time, the final bill being in by June 2015, then they lose all the money which has been put into this project, especially the funding from the EU.

Planning permission has been granted by authorities on both sides of the border but Sammy Wilson is deliberately dragging his feet on it for over a year now, he even stated "it is questionable how the bridge project had obtained planning permission." and that "it would not be right for him to make a decision on the bridge project before his officials had reported back on its feasibility". Even though everyone and the rest of the political parties has given it the green light!

Typical of the DUP and Sammy Wilson. This bridge would be of huge cross-community and border benefit. They try to transform a positive economic and tourism initiative like the Narrow Bridge and turn it into something political just because it links Down to Louth.

Imagine the tourism possibilities of the bridge, it would allow the Mournes, the Ring of Gullion and the Cooley peninsula to develop into a tourist region just like the Ring of Kerry or the Causeway Coast.

It is astounding how stupid and bigoted the DUP is. Remember the leaflet drop targeting Alliance and the trouble they caused with their sectarian tribalistic politics? I do not understand how people vote for cretins like Sammy Wilson. With people like that in the DUP and as long as it is dominated by people like him, Northern Ireland will always remain stuck in the gutter.

He says there is a "political smell" about the bridge.

It is just a f**king bridge!!!

They'd build a wall along the border if they could get away with it

This is shameless posturing, the sort of thing we hoped had been left in the past. Wilson is "concerned" that the bridge won't be finished on time, so he is delaying it. The EU is paying for this from regional funds that are directed at precisely this type of project, there is a very modest amount of connection required on the Co. Down side, it is a no-brainer for any sane non bigoted politician.

Same crap is being pulled on the A5 in case it would provide a decent link for the Free-Staters to use.

The A5 faces wide spread opposition in some of the areas it runs through. The Narrow Water bridge however is fairly universally supported I believe.

How much is the RoI expected to put into the Narrow Water Bridge, if built? Can we afford it even if it is desirable? I did drive Dublin to Downpatrick a couple of years ago and it struck me how off the beaten track the place was. Fairly poor road links there. Would this bridge make any difference heading that way?

Wilson has his own agenda of course. That's pretty obvious.
