A new notice has been erected at a rural filling station in an East Galway town stating for any purchase of under 15 Euro using Credit Card/Visa etc there is an extra charge of 25 Cent & for getting Cash Back there is an extra charge of 1Euro. The reason is the high bank charges. Will this encourage custom. A Euro is a bit hefty for cash back. The bank only charges 28 cent!!!!

They could always remove the convenience of offering cashback. If the ATM is empty and you are stuck for cash, €1 is not exactly a punitive charge and makes people think about 'do I need cashback' rather than emptying the till of notes.

King Mallie Portumna. Amphkingwest you are right if one is stuck for cash its ideal but the customer also pays the bank fees. Wouldn't 25cent be sufficient. With a Bank of Ireland card it would cost 28cent Bank charges & 1.00 to the filling station to avail of Cash Back. I suggest it would be better for the business to forget about cashback.
