    I put a bid in on a house recently, and lone behold, a day later the EA rang to,say that some one else put a higher bid.

    Can i ask the EA to show me proof in writing that there has been a higher offer, or do I have to just take his word for it?

    You have to take his word for it, or call his bluff.
