Cycling an Aquarium.

Just a question on this subject. If I were to put a brand new filter in an old tank for a week and then put this filter to a new tank. Would that speed up this whole process or just kick start it?

Is the old tank running ie has fish in it etc, as if so you could take the sponges out of that filter and dunk them into the new tank and give them a bit of a squeeze.

This would help kickstart the cycling process

It would be much more effective to take some media (not all of it) out of the existing tank and add it to the new filter. That should kick start the process, but you still need to add fish slowly over a number of weeks.
