    Popular winner, good to see.

2 bogies all week, 64 on the final day, wins by 6. One of the best individual 4 days of golf I've seen.

    2 bogeys in 4 rounds that's a complete joke!!!!!!!!'

How do they do it, how???

    Someone tell me how??????

Solid 1st round for Kevin Phelan at Leopard Creek today, -2. Good start to his career on Tour.

Solid putting looks to have kept his round going and a great finish!

I think Phelan is the real deal.

He seems to have ticked a lot of boxes already so early in career. Made cut at US open, played walker cup, came through Q school at 1st attempt.

Other top amateurs like Paul cutler, Alan Dunbar who were expected to do great things are finding it harder to get there so shows how good Phelan's achievement is

He will make the cut on the mark for his 1st event as a pro which I am sure takes a lot of pressure off for future events. Hopefully a couple of good rounds at the weekend and make a few quid.

Made a pro cut already in Holland after Walker Cup.
Agree looks the real deal can see him comfortably enough keeping his card this year (maybe top 80 race to Dubai) nd then progress to world top 50 in a couple years, unless he goes mad for the gargle or does something silly like falling in love:)

Great to see Damian McGrane make the cut too at Leopard Creek. He had a rocky start to his round today, but got himself back to level par.

Phelan shot a 68 today to move near enough top 20. Another one of them tomorrow nd he could get a top 10, excellent stuff

He's tied 15th right now - great performance. He's a great prospect. It'd be nice to see Damian McGrane punch in a good round tomorrow.

McGrane is 4 under for 13 holes today. Good to see him hitting some form.

So what's Richard Finch's story? I know he doesn't have a card this year and only played in the Alfred Dunhill on a sponsors exemption, finishing second will get him into next week and the cheque of €172,500 will go a long way towards getting him his card for next year (cut off this year was €233k).

He seems to be an exceptional, well liked player but it comes across to me that he is too often trying to be the funny guy in class without concentrating on his own game. When he won the Irish Open I thought he was really going to push on. Maybe not getting his card back has finally given him the kick he needs!

David Higgins leads after round 1 in Hong Kong, great round 64 -6

Great to see - he had a miserable end to his season and I'd love to see him recover quickly.

Round 2 did not go well - +4, leaving him on -2, tied 28th. At leas he has made the cut, and let's hope he puts in two good rounds now. Lawrie and Phelan have missed the cut though.

Amazing golfer. I wonder will he keep playing the regular tour after he turns 50 next month. I expect he'll divide his time between the regular and seniors tours and he should win lots of money on the seniors tour if he keeps playing like this. Is he eligible for the US Champions Tour?

I've just discovered that this week's "wheelbarrow event" in South Africa counts towards the Race to Dubai and the Ryder Cup European Points rankings. What a farce! http://www.europeantour.com/mm/document/tournament/tournaments/21/35/60/_english.pdf

Good win by Bjorn in the Nedbank, but it doesn't seem right that winning an invitational event with only 30 participants can be worth almost 800,000 Ryder Cup points and could well catapult Bjorn into next year's team.

A joke. Why or How did that come about. Sounds like an Idea the Euro Tour lads came up with at a piss up at a casino - where all expenses were covered by the casino. Oh sorry that's what the place is.

Imagine that, professional golf being all about the money, whatever next???.

Imagine that, professional golf being all about the money, whatever next???.

That's not the point that I was making. These "wheelbarrow" events have been around for a while. Initially, they didn't carry OWGR ranking points, then this was changed. Now they are allowing the prize money to count towards Ryder Cup qualification via the European Tour list, which totally distorts the qualification process and gives an unfair advantage to those who were invited to the event.

That is not the point people are making - they are saying it shouldn't have Ryder Cup points.

Nobody was invited to the event. So if a player didn't get to play then he only has himself to blame for not playing well enough during the season to qualify.

I don't necessarily agree with the event giving Ryder cup points but where do you draw the line? The final Race to Dubai event only had 60 entrants and I didn't see anybody complaining about that event counting for Ryder cup points.

The fact is that the Nedbank is a big money tournament and the European Tour is not in a strong enough position to turn away an event like that.

Actually a better comparison is the Volvo World Match play which counted for the last Ryder Cup and only had 24 entrants.

However not all of the money in that comp counted for the Ryder cup and Race to Dubai. So maybe they should have repeated that and had reduced Ryder Cup points over the weekend also?
