Morikawa is worth keeping an eye on. Apparently obtained a top 50 ranking quicker than Speith & McIlroy. I'd guess that's from the time he obtained his tour card.
That college class is special.Hivland playing in Puerto Rico this week desperately looking for the win as both Morikawa and Woolf already have one apiece.
There is another member of that class to watch out for too, his name is Brandon Wu. He waited to play in the Walker Cup before turning pro. He is out of Stanford where their great golfers have had surnames beginning with W, that's Tom Watson and Tiger Woods.

I think you could see 4 solid Top 20 calibre players in that group.

Hovland probably has the highest ceiling but Wolff is box office given the distance and the mechanics, I just question the longevity.
I can envisage a scenario where he gets pissed off with Gankas, goes to someone like Claude and they rebuild the whole thing.

Like you said, top quality class.

Decent weekend ahead now, a few interesting stories.

Matsuyama following up some cracking T2G stats from last week.

Reed looking motivated or at least unfazed by the Koepka issue.

Bryson-as much as others hate him- looking like the extra distance is helping.

Not to mention JT & Tyrell Hatton on the road back to their respective bests.

Also Rory with a tough day but decent recovery in the end.

All in all, the makings of a good weekend

Rahm on a roll, 6 birdies in 7.

    Hole in one on 17!

Holy **** Job Rahm. Hole in one to get to 19 under for his round.

    Amazing stuff

It is unbelievable because he is ten under for the round.

    Rahm, Reed & Bryson.

    Can’t stand any of them.

JT usually unstoppable in these situations, he's played some savage stuff so far. Still wouldn't rule out the likes of Rahmbo or Rory but they're seriously up against it. Should be interesting.

I'm one of the few Bryson fans but he's so enigmatic.

Stylistically you'd expect that he should play extremely consistently but in actuality he tends to be more streaky.

Again teeing up for another cracking Sunday.

Based on the scoring, effectively 11 people in the mix.

No excusing that s**t especially when you can tap and repair the greens now. Some players don’t help themselves.

    100%, zero excuse for that.

TBH, I actually care very little about a player's personality off course so if he was the nicest guy or the rudest guy off course, it has very little bearing on my fondness for a player.

However, when it's stuff like that which on course can negatively impact other players, it does sour your opinion of them.

    Agreed.

Especially after his putting green antics last year at the same event.

So Rahmbo's scoring average on the par 3's yesterday was 1.75!

Decent final round in prospect. JT is usually an excellent front runner so hard to see him getting caught but some early birdie chances available for the chasing pack.

The group in 11 under would have to shoot an 8 under round today I’d say and that’s achievable in this course

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,853 ✭✭✭Trampas

JT will be collecting air miles for that far off

    Bad miss by Rory

What a start from rahmbo, could be new number 1 after this and a much better ambassador for the game than the other mouthpiece

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Rahm is some machine. Has all the tools of the game and looks to have a much better temperament although I do like a little bit of fire in the players.

Think Rory will be glad to get away from PO Ana greens. He has had plenty of chances but not converting.

Haven’t been watching much this weekend but that first hole must be handy enough. 8 of the top 9 starting off with a birdie today. Rahm is a beast. Think he’ll make a Major breakthrough this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,749 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

    Rahm going well again

What on earth is your man Van Rooyen wearing :D:D:D:P:P:P

I don't think you would get out in most golf clubs in Ireland in that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

This just got a bit more interesting. Might be another late night finish with all the birdie chances on the back nine

  • Registered Users Posts: 871 ✭✭✭Remind me

Great win for Hovland, he won’t be too far from Ryder cup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

In other news, Viktor Hovland has just won the opposite field event on the pga tour this week in Puerto Rico.

Rammed a 30ft putt for birdie in to win it. Gets his full status with that win and certainly goes further up Harrington’s list for the Ryder cup

It’s all gone a little ragged and tense here for these last two groups.

Totally up for grabs now. Reed or Bryson looking the most solid

  • Registered Users Posts: 871 ✭✭✭Remind me

Just fear I’m sitting up watching to see Reed win it

I don't like watching him play golf - but you do have to admire DeChambeau . He is very good doing his own thing.

I still don't like when he is in the mix.

These rulings take way too long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,067 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    Rahm is gas.

When he hits a poor shot - he blames the course, the lie , the crowd, the green.

    Bryson DeShampoo

Have a horrible feeling De Chambeau will turn up and win one of the US majors this year .

Nah....can’t stand Bryson’s antics but give me him over a cheat who now unfortunately looks odds on

Has anything been done in terms of pace of play? So far behind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,375 ✭✭✭✭prawnsambo

I'm torn deciding who I'd least like to win this: De Chambeau or Reed. Hobson's choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,067 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    I like Reed -

I'm disappointed about the cheating thing - have not heard full details.

Golf needs character versus robot pros.

What are you waiting to hear about? It was blatant cheating. No bs "camera angle" excuse will fly with people who actually know the rules.

Most of that was Thomas looking for his ball when he was 80yards right and then the ruling when he moved the rake and the ball moved after

Yes but it was the same yesterday with Reeds group

With many question marks already over him he clearly did it on camera and was found out.

Golf certainly needs characters, not cheats.

I looked at footage there, if it is the footage.

It comes on after the "improving of lie" and I'll be honest just behind ball is still very bad.

I don't get the 3 wood comment , because with a good enough golfer (Reed) in the right grass a 3 wood will cut through any lie.

There is no smoking gun in that footage anyway.

What is the footage , could someone post.
