Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Very good bunker shot from Rory. Such an awkward distance from where he was

Stephen Bodwich, 81,80,80,84, +37, must be some sort of 4 round high scoring record on PGA tour?

He's the only player to fail to break 80 in a WGC anyway

I'd say Rory is starting to regret staying up to watch the MMA

Danny Willett is very good at playing out of the sand.

Rory +3 for the round. Very disappointing.

And had a 4 shot lead at one stage. Frustrating.

Meanwhile Scott is just dialling them in.

This is some come back from Scott. Had 2 doubles on the front and I certainly thought his chance was gone

He's playing so well, can't see him being caught now.

    Some collapse by Mcillroy here!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Rory just completely out of sorts. Has been rubbish with his irons.

Shows the difference in attitude between Scott and Rory there too on 14. Rory lays up off the tee and leaves over 200 yards to pin while Adam hits driver and leaves only a wedge from 135

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 195 ✭✭yipsnomore

All over for mcilroy not sure why he didn't hit driver on 14. Still a good tournament for him overall.

Scott is just incredible with his irons.

It's Scotts now. He's playing some brilliant golf.

Scott was forced into being aggressive and had nothing to lose. His birdies have been tap ins. Unreal

I'm not sure if today's blowup overshadows his performances on Friday and Saturday. He has just threw a 4 shot lead away and is now 3 behind. That's nothing other than a disaster.

Also add that to his shocker in the 4th round at riviera and these performances will effect him mentally.
Had to go throw a few quid on Scott for the masters quick!!

He has dropped three shots you're making it sound like seven

DJ has had four double bogeys so far.

Ah here, didn't realise dustin has had another meltdown. That lad has some serious collapses and it can't be helping Rory playing with him.

Willeta bunker play has been nothing short of exceptional!! Top notch stuff. Great tournament for him.

DJ in full ejection mode on the back 9.

Yes, only 3 over, while Johnston is 8 over!

Jesus - it is 306 yards - Scott has it going at flag - you just forget how good these are - no you don't - that is amazing stuff.

"Make America Great Again" - or just add another water hazard.

Scott made a right mess of that bunker shot on 16 - that's the end of his birdie chance, and a bit of work for his par.

Meanwhile Danny Willett is playing out of his skin.

Bubs is unreal the way he controls the spin, he was disappointed that didn't spin right

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

    Scott flirting with the water.

    How did that stay dry???

You have to say regardless of the outcome. Serious cojones to take on that shot considering his position.

Fair play to Adam Scott, great recovery after the two double bogeys, played to win, well done.

What a brilliant year of golf ahead of us. Scott, fowler and a resurgent mickelson back in form and really want to threaten the big 3 now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,378 ✭✭✭HighLine

Scott: Williams will still caddy Masters

Obviously William's experience around Augusta should be the determining factor but still harsh on the new caddy after 2 wins in a row. I suppose his fortnight earnings of 250k + will make him feel a little better.

    Agree with this.

How many years have we had this many in the mix, now I accept it happened more when Tiger went awol.

    McIlroy
    Spieth
    Day
    Fowler
    Watson
    D Johnson
    Scott

Then on top of them, you have a list of guys that if they won a major nobody would be shocked.

    Reed
    Snedeker
    Z Johnson
    Mickelson

I personally rate Schwartzel and Oosthuizen very highly , but to generalise for a second, South African stars don't tend to actually last long for some reason - they bring out Gary Player from the closet when you say that. But from a raw talent perspective not sure why the two lads are not up there and may surprise at some stage. Grace is actually performing better and amazingly Els is the last one to have won one.

Then there is another gang that you just never know

Garcia (a bit mad, actually doesn't look a pro at times when heat is on )
Lowry (still seems unpredictable and seasonal- but the right week he is unreal and Irish)
Dufner and Bradley (whatever happened there)
Kaymer (the biggest underachiever in golf at present) ( More talent then most mentioned and 2 majors playing miles ahead of everyone )
Rose (Not sure we could endure)
Paddy (You'd be a fool to rule him out in a bad weather open/ hard major)
GMac (In love, with everything outside golf- I'm happy for him :))
Stension (Freezes when alone (non ryder cup))
Matsuyama (looks a winning machine and could be the surprise ahead)
Then 50 other guys that can go low as always.

Anyway - great year ahead - the person who will enjoy it most is Paddy Power, because even 100 "experts" - or posters here would not get the 4 right.

Good idea for a mini fantasy major thread ? :D

It's looking like a fantastic season - a whole bunch of guys in the mix now, and guys like Danny Willet beginning to shine now as well. Last night was great TV, and it looks like we could have many more tournaments like that.

Andy Sullivan and Paul Casey are also up there with the best.

Bit of a brain fart by JB Holmes and his caddy. It's a relatively simple rule when you think about it so how players get it wrong baffles me.

J.B. Holmes Committed 'Serious Breach' of the Rules at Trump Doral
J.B. Holmes started his final round at the WGC-Cadillac Championship in a head-scratching manner, for himself and everyone else following along.

After Holmes' opening tee shot found the hazard, the 33-year-old took an incorrect drop, which a rules official later said was a "serious breach."

Holmes took an "opposite margin" drop that meant he had to drop within two club lengths of the hazard, but he instead went back about 25 yards to hit his next shot. A rules official told him on the green about his error. The on-course reporter (in the video below) summarizes it as saying Holmes took the hybrid option, combining two different drop options into one.

Holmes was penalized two strokes and went back to where his original drop was to finish the hole. If he would have teed off on the second hole without correcting his mistake he would have been disqualified. Holmes double-bogeyed the par-5 and finished with an 8-over 80 and in 59th place.

Speith really struggling again today. Admittedly a tough course but doesn't seem to be in form at all.
