Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bale could beat these on his own.

All them combined wont sell as much jerseys as Bale, who will make the money back through merchandise

They managed it with Ronaldo, but if they recoup the transfer fee for Bale with merchandise sales I would be shocked. He is nowhere near as marketable as CR7 is.

    Nowhere near as good either.

I would be shocked if it were true that Ronaldo increased Madrid merchandising income by even half of the size of his fee. Despite the frequency with which people explain a away large fees with it, merchandising is not that big a part of the reasons for these transfer fees.

CR7 was a highly marketable player. Madrid probably get a cut of the pie in any of the sponsorship deals he does, I personally would be very surprised if he didn't make his fee back and then some. Whether or not Bale will do it is a different story, but marketing in football is a very lucrative business.

Never said he was as good as Ronaldo, but there is a reason Real like to break transfer records and thats because its easier to market the worlds most expensive players

Real Madrid's annual merchandising income is at most €150 million euros. I highly doubt Ronaldo increased that by more than 10%, but even giving him 10% of that, it world take about 7 years to make back his fee.

    Some basic internet research...
    http://blog.paddypower.com/2013/01/24/real-madrid-beat-barcelona-and-manchester-united-to-top-money-league/
Real Madrid have commercial revenue of 36% of 512 million, or about 185 million. The vast majority of that will be sponsorships, then the rest is probably merchandising, mostly. Say half is merchandising (that's way too much, but whatever). That's 95 million at most.

So really, you are working off nothing but guess work?

Matchday doesn't just = tickets btw, it includes sales in the club shop, where it's next to impossible to get into and Ronaldo shirts have been known to sell out in 20 minutes, I've read reports over the last year that Ronaldo is currently selling more shirts than any Real player EVER, even more than Beckham, Zidane, Figo and Raul. The money he brings into the club doesn't just come from shirt sales.
He attracts sponsors, he attracts TV companies to pay more money for screening rights, people spend more money in the shop on merchendise, more people buy season tickets and so on.

Real have stated several times that they have already made their money back on the Ronaldo deal.

United turn down bid for Rooney from Chelsea. The players offered are worth £5 million so not Mata or Luiz

    Absolutely. As are you.
I didn't say he wasn't worth it, I said they haven't made his fee back in merchandising revenue.

Pretty sure it was a picture of Bale and Clint Dempsey, so makes sense they changed it since we sold Clint.

I think Bale is staying now. AVB has said Dempsey was sold to fund transfers. If Bale was going there'd be no reason for that sale.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Hope that's true as Real might just get on the blower for Suarez.

Or Rooney, whose position seems now untenable, and unlikely to be sold domestically.

exactly.selling bale would be a 1/3 of the way to the New stadium.dempsey was probably sold to bring in another younger player in that price range.we've already spent over £50 million after all

Bale isn't even in the top 10 of top Premier League jersey sellers. Madrid won't make a whole lot in terms of merchandise from Bale.

Absolutely brilliant trolling from Spurs twitter account tonight.
Changing our Twitter background seems to have created a bit of a frenzy. With Clint leaving the Club, it was time for an image change #THFC

Gareth was on that background too. Did anyone notice? We change our social media backgrounds regularly and feature all players. #THFC
