Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Plasma/LED TV For Gaming, Movies

    Hi,

I'm looking to get a tv. My budget is €1,500 or less and the bigger the better. It will be used for playing on the PS3, watching movies (3D if there's a good model within that price range).

What should I go for? LED, Plasma, Smart?

I'm not sure if I'll benefit from a smart tv. I have Apple TV so Netflix is taken care of and I don't see myself browsing the web or using Facebook on the TV.

I saw this on Harvey Norman's website:

    http://www.harveynorman.ie/lg-60-plasma-tv-60pn650t.html

The 600Hz was the part I really noticed. Might be too big though.

I'm open to any suggestions if people have them.

    Thanks in advance.

I've been through a fair number of TV's in the last year and within my company we settled on Sharp LED TV's. The 60 inch(LC-60LE636E) is within your price range.

They use very little electricity in comparison to Plasma's, they are quite cheap to purchase, the color calibration out of the box is very good, blacks very deep and the picture quality is excellent. Not sure about the speakers, but if your buying a 1k+ Tv, you shouldn't be using the onboard speakers anyway.

I don't like Smart functionality in a TV, as you are locked into waiting for the manufacturer to update apps if API's change. They tend to be quite slow to do that. I'd stick with a external dedicated device for that.

I'm also not that pushed on 3d, used it with a number of manufacturers and not impressed. I don't think it really adds to the experience at home.

also don't be very pushed by things like Hertz ratings. TV' and movies only need 50-60 hertz and 3d only needs 120 hertz. 600 is not a selling point, odds are its nowhere close and its completely not needed.
