I need to get a new central heating timer - just want the basic dial one, not a digital one. Where's the best place to get one? Would a hardware shop have them or do you need to go to specialist places?

any decent electrical wholesaler should stock them. apt is the model your looking for.

they're a nice timer but they do give a lot of trouble with the mechanical timer

it's a regular callout replacing them

unless they've done something about the problem

Donnellys in rathoath might have one, if not n2 in ashbourne or michael garys in finglas.
you have two options, either a flash or an apt.
the basic flash is the 31100 and cost about 26 euro plus vat
the apt is a little more common and about a fiver dearer.
also have a look at the flash 31005, its an analogue timer and comes with a boost button.

Clonee electrical in coolmine industrial estate, just beside power city.

Thanks all. Can both the flash and apt be used for oil heating or does it make a difference? Just googled the flash 31005 and it returned all links about gas heating

the type of heating is not usually an issue, its the load thats important.
the flash 31100 and apt are usually used for immersions so are well up to the task as far as a standard domestic heating is concerned.
the flash 31005 is not suitable for immersions but can be used for central heating providing the load doesnt exceed 6 amps.

indie: I am hoping to replace an APT timer which is on the immersion with some sort of digital timer - what would you suggest that can take the immersion load?

The clock in the link is the 24/7......the sangamo psd will do the same and be a little cheaper and easier to program, the 24/7 can be programmed as a daily clock too so for the extra few quid its worth getting.
Ring your local wholesaler and see what they keep off the shelf.

What do you not want a digital timer? Try CDV also in coolmine industrial estate, that's where I always get mine.

I use this digital timer all the timer because of the larger easy to read display and simple big button controls.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sunvic-Day-Programmer-Single-Channel/dp/9792137262/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1367001847&sr=8-10&keywords=sunvic

CDV sell them for around €65-€70

Is there anything like the flash 31005 that you can use for immersions? Looking for the same clock function with a boost button. Or will I have to go digital?

you could use the flash timer but you wud need to incorporate a relay to take the load of the immersion...

Wondering if I could use a Flash 31100 and a Timeguard boost button together? They'll be replacing a socket with on/off and bath/sink on it - would there be much hassle doing this?
