    http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/reds-agree-aspas-deal-in-principle

Liverpool have tonight agreed a deal in principle with Celta Vigo for striker Iago Aspas, subject to documentation being completed.

Aspas scored 12 goals in 34 games in 2012-13 despite playing in a side threatened with relegation until the final day of the season.

During the campaign he was directly involved in 51 per cent of his team's goals.

The 25-year-old broke into the senior side at the Spanish outfit in 2009 after graduating from their youth set-up.

Aspas can play through the middle or out wide and he could become Brendan Rodgers's second signing of the summer transfer window following a deal for Kolo Toure.

just watching this video of liverpool's top 25 goals this year, and there really were some crackers.

makes for a nice wee watch.

The Celtic game weekend is starting to shape up nice. Lafayette bar O Connell bridge are going to be running the bar as a Liverpool bar for the day. Will be doing specials on pints and bottles so will be the perfect meeting point for everyone before the game.

Then later that night The Anfield Wrap are doing a show there. To keep up to date keep an eye here...

I actually thought we might be rock bottom of this table, 3rd last is awful too though. I'm surprised to see Chelsea that low.

I thought Stoke would nearly be rock bottom

How are the squads current values calculated? What the daily mail journo's would pay.

    Not convinced.

I like the way we are looking abroad for players but it pains me to see us being linked with Mignolet and Bekovic.

That looks a cracking night in Lafayette . Where can I get tickets ?

Skysports understands the Aspas fee to be £7.7m

Why? They are both good keepers.

Meh. From I've seen I don't think they are good enough. It's easy to look good for worse teams as a keeper. I'd want to see more of them but for £9m+ for what I have seen I am not impressed at all.

Get them early, limited to just under 600 and I believe a good few gone already.

But not an upgrade on Reina.

Rodgers said he wants 3 keepers and 2 for every other position. So assuming he's not considering Danny Ward as 3rd choice, we need another keeper. United have competition for that position, but neither City nor Chelsea do. I don't particularly think we need to splash £9M on competition.

But I still think that Reina could go. If Monaco come in for Valdes (and I think they could do better), then it's possible. I think he'd show his best at Barca, would suit his style, and he'd rediscover his mojo...

I'm not saying there isn't better out there but I think they are decent....I've seen more of Mignolet. He's young too so should improve. Unless we got one of the European hot shots I would be happy with him.

Not always easy to look good in a weaker team....yeah you have more chances to impress but you have less cover and concede more goals. He was voted their player of the year last year.

I think pep might go......I'd be highly surprised if mignolet was signed as competition. Chelsea have Curtois out on loan in good form (and direct competition for Mignolet) if they need him.

Not easy to get keepers....he may be the best available to us this summer (that I know of but definitely not up on all my European keepers)

Rodgers said in the last press conference he wanted to sign a striker and an AM, plus 1/2 CB's. I assume Aspas is the striker, Mk probably the AM and we've been linked with at least 3 CB's. I assume Carroll will be gone so that would be roughly £40 Million out with £15 Million in.

If Suarez goes we'll still have Sturridge, Borini and Aspas as possible CF's, Mk/Coutinho as AM's with Downing/Sterling/Suso/Shelvey as the other front 3 options. While a £20-30 Million striker would be a must if he goes, it does leave us with a lot of CF/Strikers, plus no great options on the right wing.

I'm wondering where Rodgers would spend the Suarez money if we've bought a striker and have 2 others in the squad.

We don't necessarily have to spend that much on a striker assuming Suarez is off. There is still value out there.

Aubameyang, Bony and Yılmaz - all players we've been linked with would cost less than £20M. Gooooooooooldado would probably cost a tad more than them.

To be honest since we only play one centre forward, I don't think we'll be going for a striker. I think someone like Alexis Sanchez - a wider attacker who scores a lot of goals, but also gets a lot of assists is more likely.

Getting Soldado would go a long way to easing the pain of losing Suarez, but I do think Rebel may be right in saying we might not go for a proper out and out center forward.

As it stands if Suarez stays, I think Alberto would be his understudy/cover. If we lose Suarez, I think we'll bring in someone higher profile.

Of course it's also possible that Mkhitaryan simply is seen as his replacement.

That would solve a lot of problems, and we''ve loads of options to complement him. RW is our problem area in the attacking third for me, too reliant on Johnson and Downing, not that much flair.

I'm puzzled as to why we are emphasising a striker/AM. That was the last area that needed attention for me this summer assuming Suarez stayed, my guess is buying a CF/AM is because the club knows Suarez is gone. They wont state it, but are planning for it.

I suppose what I'm getting at is, if Suarez and Carroll go, that's £55-65 Million, plus £20-25 Million on top from the owners, we could be spending £80-90 Million this summer.

I'm refusing to believe he's heading to Napoli for 11m.

It's kinda like how, as far as I'm concerned, Arda Turan is still playing at Galatasaray.

Sanchez would be an excellent purchase but would he leave Barca to come to us?

There are more realistic signings we could make like Muniain, Turan or Eriksen.

I've always wondered why we never went for Turan especially if he is as big a fan as he is supposed to be.

There are a few good things to take out of the window so far. Have we been linked with any English players? The Ince thing seems to have disappeared.

We're also trying to get the best in young players, well under 27 at least.

I'll be mega pissed off if he ends up anywhere other than Dortmund or Liverpool.

There's been a bit of noise in Germany that, sigh, Schalke have inquired over him too.

I'll be out on my own here, but I'd sign Ireland. Available for a minimal fee and you could prolly negotiate circa 40k wages. He has talent and could compliment the style Rodgers is implementing well.

Just out of curiosity then if Sturridge gets an 8.5 for his first 6 months at Liverpool what would you have given Suarez at the same point in his Liverpool career?

The reason they want him out. Of Villa is the wage bill. I'd be skeptical he'd take 40k since he's apparently on 80k. Ireland doesn't strike me as the kinda guy who likes to take a pay cut

Edit: actually it could be 65k with villa

Wow. That's an interesting shout alright. Seems quite out of the blue also. He does have talent alright but is another player that doesn't seem to have the right mentality to succeed at a top club. For around 40k a week (I know you're just guestimating) he would be interesting, but ultimately would fail I believe.

Not a bad shout at all. Really classy player on his day and could thrive if surrounded by a team of good technicians. What would be his best position/role within the likely Liverpool formation?

It's really two good seasons - he was Villa fan's player of the year 2011 / 12. And his 2009 / 10 season was immense.

It's not a joke. You all want bargains with upside, right? Well bargains with upside don't only come in the form of the latest Football Manager type early twenties player from the continent. Formely talented players who have lost their way and are now available for little outlay when they have point to prove can work very well too.

He's on 65k, he's not going to get that elsewhere and I reckon he'd relish a shot at a bigger club at the other end of the table.

I think he could play either the center or attacking central midfield role (not the defensive one). He's technically adept with a good footballing brain and on his best form and fitness supplied very clever movement.

Definite gamble, but if he rediscovered his 2009 / 10 form he'd instantly improve us imo.

Sturridge has made a better start than Luis.

But I wouldn't expect him to reach the level Luis reached last season.
